The visit of the Van Gogh Museum
Located in the heart of the Dutch capital, on the Place du Musée (Museumplein), this museum entirely dedicated to the life and work of the post-impressionist painter was founded in 1973. It displays a breathtaking collection of more than 220 paintings, 500 drawings and more than 800 letters , including 652 letters of the intimate correspondence he held with his brother, Théodore Van Gogh.
The Room in Coucher, Vincent Van Gogh
Van Gogh painted 800 paintings in ten years! The museum has a quarter of its creations and is the largest collection in the world of paintings by the painter.
In addition to the possibility of discovering the life of the painter, it is an open door to the history of the 19th century art, because the museum also has paintings of renowned Impressionist painters such as Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Claude Monet or Georges Seurat. It is a “hospitable” of expressionism, naturalism, fauvism and impressionism, from the various pictorial currents announcing the modern art of the 20th century.
To visit the Van Gogh Museum, it is necessary to plan at least 2h30 inside.
You will discover the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh’s five major stages of life, namely the ups and downs of his tormented life until his suicide in 1890, at the age of 37:
- 1880-1885 : Netherlands,
- 1886-1888 : Paris,
- 1888-1889 : Arles,
- 1889-1890 : Saint-Rémy-de-Provence,
- 1890 : Auvers-sur-Oise.
In the chronological order of his life, contemplate the most famous paintings such as "The potatoes eaters" , "The Iris Wheat Field", "The bedroom" , « Les Tournesols » or his last painting, "The field of corn with crows" .
