Austrian city located southeast of the country, Graz is the second largest city in Austria with a population of 283,869 (2017) and an area of 127.58 km2. Innere Stadt

Innere Stadt houses the historic centre of Graz. The city dates from the Roman period, built around the Schloßberg hill , and is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Schloßberg is a wooded hill overlooking the medieval centre and its roofs and red brick walls, accessible by stairs or by a funicular. The historic centre of Graz is on foot and is not very large. It concentrates most of the historical monuments to visit, the hotels where to sleep in Graz and many bars and restaurants where to party and eat. Hauptplatz – Place de l’Hôtel-de-Ville with its houses decorated with stucco – is the main square of the old medieval town of Mur, the neuralgic center of social activity.

The Tour de l’Horloge, the Cathedral of Saint-Gilles de Graz – built in the 15th century in a Gothic style – and the famous castle of Eggenberg are the unmistakable historical monuments of the district. For museums, you will have to visit the Joanneum Universal Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. At the turn of your urban walks in the alleys of the city, visit the Porte de Fer, Karlauplatz (1762), Marienplatz (1680), Karmeliterplatz (1680), Lendplatz (1680) and Griesplatz (1680). The Neue-Welt-Gasse (New Wave Street) has a large concentration of terraces where strolling through the beautiful days.

South of the historic centre

In the south of the city centre, there is a thriving social activity, with many restaurants and shopping streets, ramified around the great place Jakominiplatz . It is an ideal area to sleep in Graz because Jakominiplatz is a terminal where buses and trams of the city pass. In the east of downtown, do not miss Stadtpark , a gigantic green lung of Graz where to wander and where to shade to recharge.
