How do I travel by ferry to the Balearic Islands?

The archipelago Balearic is a small Mediterranean jewel, located off the east coast of Spain. It consists of three islands: Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca. To move between Ibiza, Menorca and Mallorca, there are two main options. The first is the plane. However, flights are expensive and do not serve all islands. The safest and cheapest solution is to make ferry trips.

If you want to move between the different islands of the Balearic Islands, you can turn to several different companies. The company Transmediterranea and the company Balearia are those that offer the most daily or weekly links between the islands. Travel times, benefits and fares are quite similar.

On board, everything is put in place so that the traveller spends a pleasant time: lounges, bars, restaurants, shops, internet connection, swimming pool, children's games, childcare equipment, etc. Depending on journeys and periods, companies sometimes have fun or well-being workshops, and organize shows. It is possible to take his vehicle and even his pet!

In terms of rates, the youngest benefit from benefits. For babies under 1 or 2 years , the ticket is free. However, they must still be registered on the reservation. For children 1 to 12 or 13 , the ticket price is reduced.

Getting around by ferry from Ibiza to Formentera

Formentera is a small island south of Ibiza. To get there, ferries usually leave the main port of the city of Ibiza, i.e. Ibiza-Ciudad.

We have to count between 30 and 40 euros return to Formentera from Ibiza. More than a dozen boats make the shuttle between the two islands, in the months of July and August . This is the case, in particular, of the Baleària company.

If you want to go to Formentera from Ibiza in winter, November to March , daily connections are less numerous. You will have a departure in the morning, one in the middle of the day and one in the late afternoon. The Sunday and holidays , morning departure is deleted. In spring and fall, the companies ensure between 6 and 10 links daily.

Getting around by ferry from Ibiza to Majorca

Transmediterrànea is a daily connection between Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza. You can connect the two islands to 2:15 . The ferries leave Ibiza at 8:30 pm and arrive at 10:45 pm. The company offers on time a night trip of 4 hours , from Ibiza. You'll arrive at 7:00 in Majorca.

In the opposite direction, from Majorca, the schedules are more interesting. The boats leave the port of Palma at 9h, to arrive at 11h15 in Ibiza. We have to count about 51 euros per adult and per journey.

The company Baleària assures 2 or 3 routes a day, one night. It must be recognized that the proposed schedules are not practical. On the other hand, from Mallorca, ferries leave in the morning at reasonable hours. The first price for a trip is 39 euros .

Getting around by ferry from Majorca to Formentera

With the Baleària company, the small island of Formentera is connected to Mallorca 2 hours . There is only one departure — in the morning — and two returns at the end of the afternoon. Call prices per person and route start at 39 euros .

Travel by ferry from Majorca to Minorca

Alcùdia-Ciutadella

The company Transmediterrànea offers 2 daily links between the Port of Alcùdia (northern Majorca) and Ciutadella (South of Minorca). The journey lasts 1h45 . Sometimes the company offers only one connection in the day.

As a general rule, you can leave Alcùdia (Majorque) at 8am or 9am, and at 5:30pm. We have to count about 36 euros per adult and per journey. In the opposite direction (Minorque-Majorque), the first departure is 12h and the second at 8pm. Sometimes, only this last schedule is proposed.

Palma-Mahon

Transmediterrànea also connects Palma (Majorque) and Mahon (Minorca). This is a weekly connection, the Sunday . The ferries leave the port at 8am, for an arrival at 2pm. In the opposite direction (Minorque-Majorque), the ferry leaves at 5.15 p.m. and arrives at Palma at 10:45 p.m. The ticket costs 34 euros at least, per adult and per journey.

Baleària offers daily connections between these two islands, in less than 2 hours . You can connect the two islands from 33 euros per person per trip.

Whatever the company you choose, you have to count between 70 and 90 euros for a return trip between Menorca and Majorca.

Getting around by ferry from Ibiza to Menorca

He is impossible to get to Minorca from Ibiza and, for greater reason, from Formentera. In general, the companies offer connections between Ibiza and Majorca and between Majorca and Minorca.

Therefore, if you want to discover Minorca from Ibiza, without passing by Majorca, you will have to fly.
