1. Mount Vesuvius

Still active, Mount Vésuve is the volcano responsible for the disappearance of Pompeii and Herculanum, thousands of years ago.

3. Herculanum

Less popular than Pompeii, the Roman city of Herculanum is just as remarkable, it is one of the best excursions from Naples.

Annihilated by the same eruption, the ancient city was a place of predilection for the nobility that had established sumptuous villas there. In particular, we note the presence of the Villa des Papyrus, a retreat site of Julius Caesar's father-in-law.

4. Royal Palace of Caserte

A sumptuous residence of the Bourbon of Naples, the Royal Palace of Caserte is classified as UNESCO World Heritage. Its impressive dimensions – 5 floors, 1,200 rooms, 34 stairs and 1,742 windows – make it one of the largest palaces in Europe!

Open to the visit, the 18th century building allows you to get out of the traditional excursions from Naples, usually to Antiquity or medieval times.

5. Ile de Capri

Paestum houses the ruins of an ancient Greek city built around the fifth century before our era. Remarkably, the archaeological site houses three impressive Greek temples with pillars. These monuments are among the best preserved in the whole Mediterranean!

You are advised to continue the visit on the side of the Paestum archaeological museum and its famous fresco of the Tomb of the Plunger (Ve siècle avant J-C), it is a real mine of information!

8. Amalfi Coast

50 kilometers long, the Amalfi coast stretches from Sorrento to Salerno . Classified at Unesco World Heritage due to its cultural and tourist importance, it is constellated with high cliffs, ruins, beaches and small colorful villages that only need to be explored.

10. Fields

This vast eruptive area, sprinkled with craters, volcanic rocks and hot springs, is composed of about forty volcanoes.

Literally named “burned fields”, it houses remarkable sites such as the archaeological park of Cumes, on which the remains of an ancient Greek colony, the ruins of the ancient baths of Baies and the Roman amphitheatre of Pouzzoles are shown.

11. Puzzoles

The reputation of Pouzzoles is linked to its impressive vestiges of the Roman era. The most essential are the Amphitheatre Flavus , an ancient monument in excellent condition of conservation, and Macellum a former Roman market built between the I and II centuries after J-C.

Still more unusual, Pouzzoles is subjected to a rare volcanic phenomenon called "bradyssism", caused by a pocket that would be under the city. Characterized by motions of deflection and elevation of the soil, this singularity has led to the repeated submersion of certain areas of the city.

Listed by Unesco on its World Heritage list, Matera is a troglodyte village famous for its sassi, rocky habitats carved in the tuf.

In addition to these dwellings, the most striking heritage elements of Matera are the churches Santa Maria de Idris and Santa Lucia alle Malve , the MUSMA Museum (the only troglodyte museum in the world) and the Casa Grotta di Vico Solitario .

14. Cilento National Park and Diano Valley
