The word Water Taxi (Bateau Taxi) sounds immediately like an excellent option but it is not the cheapest way to get to Venice from the airport. It is however the way to get you the best experience for your arrival in the City of Doges!
A classic water taxi (also called motorcyclescafo ) will take you anywhere in Venice for 32€ per person (about 100 to 150 euros per boat (depending on the number of passengers and the number of baggage). If you are a group of 4 or 6 people, it might be useful to share the race. If you are alone or two, you will share your taxi boat with other travellers. As with any land taxi in Italy, it is always necessary to negotiate a price before boarding the boat to avoid any surprise.
The ideal is to book in advance your boat-taxi race, which will await you upon arrival at the Marco-Polo airport of Venice. The online rate is 32€ per person . If you are alone, the price is the same because you share the race.

Bus ACTV The ACTV bus runs between the Venice-Marco Polo airport and the Piazzale Roma and costs 8 euros the one way and 15 euros for a return ticket (new rates since 2017). Buses circulate every fifteen minutes which makes them very convenient. The bus line that runs from the airport to Piazzale Roma is the line N°5 (the lines N°15 and N°45 also work, see all schedules ) and the journey lasts about 25 minutes. Note that ACTV buses do not have baggage compartments, which means that you will have to keep them with you on the bus. Tickets are purchased on automatic machines located both at the airport and at Piazzale Roma.

Alilaguna is the name of the public company that operates the water buses (or Water bus) that circulate between the Marco Polo and Venice airport. This alternative to the bus may seem useful, but keep in mind that the trip will be made in about 1h15. But, if you have time to check-in at your hotel, it may be a pleasant option. A ticket will cost you 15 euros and a return ticket costs 27 euros (by booking the rate online is 14€ and 25€).
Alilaguna water buses are easy to spot because they are yellow on the bottom. There are three lines that go to Venice from the airport. The Red, Blue and Orange lines make each of the different stops so ask before buying your ticket. The Red Line stops only in the islands of Murano and Lido, so you will most likely take the Blue Line or the Orange Line that make several stops in Venice. If your hotel is close to one of the stops, it will allow you to save a little time, because the terminus is Piazzale Roma. Tickets can be purchased in the arrival hall at the Venice airport and the boats are about ten minutes’ walk outside the airport (see map below the article). Water buses leave every hour, and stay affordable to start your stay in Venice with a boat ride.
4. Transfer from airport to Venice by train
You can take a train to Venice, but this is not a recommended option for visitors arriving at the Venice-Marco Polo airport because you must first take a bus from the Venice airport to the Venice-Mestre Railway Station. From there you can take the train that runs through the lagoon, but climbing and descending from a bus and then going up and down a train is not very convenient. But if you decide to take this option, the Marco Polo bus at Venice-Mestre train station costs only 3 euros. From there it will be necessary to add 1 extra € for the short train ride to the Venice-Santa-Lucia train station.
5. Transfer from airport to Venice by taxi
A normal taxi can transport you from the airport to Piazzale Roma in about 25-30 min and costs about 35-40 euros. If you are tired by your trip, you should know that you will have to negotiate to get a good price. With a ground taxi, you will not have to make multiple stops, which is its only advantage.
