The most beautiful river in Colombia?

At first glance, Caño Cristales could probably pass for something that comes out straight from the novel Charlie and Chocolaterie , but you will have more chance to find her in Serranía de la Macarena en Colombia , a national park located near the city of La Macarena.

Nicknamed “the river that fled to paradise” and “the river in five colors”, Caño Cristales does not look like all these photos until autumn. The crystalline water flows all year round, highlighting the rocks covered with foam. During the short period between the dry and wet season of the region (from September to November ), the water levels of the river drop and the sun rays provide enough light so that the foam can bloom.

What happens next is a color explosion : the dull greens become dynamic, the algae specimens illuminate in bright red, purple, with tones of magenta. When combined with sunlight, water also takes a blue shade.
