The omnipotence of ancestors and amulets in Madagascar

Summer as winter, there are traditional rituals everywhere in Madagascar that honour Zanahary (God) or ancestors.

With the Malagasy, nothing ever happens by chance. For every real fact, there is always a cause-effect relationship. A happy event occurs thanks to God's (Zanahary) and the deceased ancestors. As for misfortunes, they are affected by lack of respect customs and customs , the transgression of fady or the evil powers of amulets.

The powers of Zanahary and the deceased ancestors of the Malgaches

In the era of the Internet, many Malagasies remain closely linked to traditional beliefs. Some wear on the wrist "vangovango" (massive silver gourmette) to protect themselves from bad spells and misleading. Others educate the front door of their ointment home based on goat fat to avoid malicious acts of witchcraft. Whether we have a bobo or a serious illness, consultation with the “mpanandro” (traditional healer) is inevitable.

Dark beliefs in gods and animism still hold an important place in everyday life to Madagascar . Disease, rupture of love affair, divorce, loss of employment, failure of a project or death? With the evils of the past, the unfortunate events never happen by chance. These are the consequences of non-respect of any rite involving the wrath of the lords, including "Zanahary" and the deceased ancestors, or the fruit of evil spells cast by others.

Amulets and witchcraft

In Madagascar, it is very common to see in one of the press strange and paranormal phenomena as follows:

  • One or more people or zebus struck by lightning while it is very beautiful,
  • homes devalued and stripped of their valuables while the owners sleep with closed fists, through the fonoka,
  • group of well-bearing teenagers who fall in transe simultaneously in classrooms or in a public place.

By the way, "ody" and "mosavy" (vaudou à la malagasy) are still very practiced in Madagascar.

Whether in large towns or in remote campaigns, we always hear about amulets and witchcraft. Summer and winter, there are traditional rituals everywhere in Madagascar that honour Zanahary or ancestors. This explains the omnipotence of the Zanahary and others with the Malagasy.
