China and its unusual... While the citizens of major cities are struggling to cope with pervasive air pollution in the hinterland, it is the celebration when two formerly separated regions are connected by a bridge to majestic architecture. This is the story of Beipanjiang bridge which connects two mountainous regions of south-west China: Guizhou and Yunnan. A true architectural prowess, the building defies the laws of physics by being perched to more than 565 metres above the valley. As a comparison and relative to the level of the ground, this bridge is located at the same height as the top floor of a building that counts 200.

Similarly, a large part of the 140 million euros initially allocated to its construction was consumed by the teams of researchers, whose aim was to ensure the safety of the users, the bridge being subjected to very violent winds due to its height, and its two main pillars being separated by 500 metres.

Colossal and important at all levels

If the bridge in itself is impressive, it is the figures around it that surprevent the most. In addition to its 565 metres of height, the Beipanjiang is 1341 metres in length, which is still impressive given the height at which its apron rises.

More than an unusual architectural work, the Beipanjiang Bridge is a monster that shortens the journeys of the inhabitants of the two regions, who previously had to travel by car and bypass the valley, in order to reach the other bank. From now on, they will need only 1 h 30, which is a significant waste of time for a republic considered to be the factory of the world.

Highest bridge in the world

New record to be added to those already held by China, the country houses the highest perched bridge in the world, with its 565 meters. He beats it so Sidu River Bridge , which held the world record of the highest bridge ever built by Man, culminating at 496 meters above the ground. However, if the Beipanjiang is the highest in the world, it is not the longest, this record being held so far by the Millau viaduct located in the Tarn valley in France, since 2004. As a reminder, it peaks at 343 meters high and 2460 meters long.

Sensitive souls, do not want to visit this region, since you will be obliged if you intend to cross from one bank to another, to borrow the bridge. Admire the book:
