Shi Cheng, the Cité des Lions engloutie in China

A few hours' drive from Shanghai, Zhejiang province, China, so is Lake Qiandao also known as Lake Milles Islands . It is actually the artificial result of a dam built by the Chinese in September 1959, to build a hydroelectric station on the Xin’an River. 1,078 large islands scatter the lake and a few thousand smaller islands are scattered on the surface of the lake.

This place has been made famous for years since in 1959, the ancient city of Shig has been flooded and submerged and is now between 26 and 40 meters deep. We also find the city of He Cheng . At the foot of the Wu Shi mountain (or “Vancouver des Cinq Lions”), rest under water Cité des Lions Shi Cheng. The city was built at the time of the Eastern Han Dynasty (and He Cheng under the Tang Dynasty) which was two millennia before (between 25 and 200 BC).

The city, which has so far remained intact, makes the divers who come from all over the world to dive into this exceptional site. It is exactly since 2001 (only!) that you can dive here. In 2005, the local tourism department discovered three new cities englouties.

The Chinese government is currently seeking solutions to immerse these cities that are worthy of Atlantis but it appears that the operations are costly and that drags. So if you’re enchanted by diving on beautiful sites, don’t hesitate to ask about it. You could be one of the last divers to explore Shig .
