Are you planning a trip to Colombia? Your point of fall will probably be the capital: this is in which district to lodge in Bogota!
Capital of the Colombia Bogota is located in the center of the country in a natural area called "Savane de Bogota", on the high plateaus of the Andes Cordillera (Oriental). Perched at 2,640 meters altitude – the third highest capital in the world after Quito and La Paz - the urban area of Bogota houses a population of 8,744,000 people on tentacular dimensions: 1,776 km2 or the area of Guadeloupe. Founded by the Spanish in 1538, it is the economic, cultural and political centre of Colombia, and occupies a major place throughout the American continent.
Nicknamed “South American Athens” because of the large concentration of cultural buildings (58 museums and more than 70 art galleries), Bogota – and entire Colombia – have long been counter-indicated because of the violence that reigned there: the city was long overwhelmed by its internal tensions that caused several hundred thousand deaths in a half century of armed conflict (Civil wars) Now pacified, more than 6.5 million foreign tourists visited Colombia in 2017, which reborn from its ashes and rises in a new day.
If you come to visit Colombia and Bogota, you may be seduced by discovering its historical and cultural heritage, its complex political and social history, but there are nevertheless areas to be avoided.

Among the 20 districts of Bogota subdivided into many districts, that of Bogota La Candelaria is one of the oldest. Historical center, La Candelaria is also a very tourist area. There are many museums, baroque-style buildings and colonial architecture. Sustained on the slopes of the Cerro de Montserrate, we find the typical streets of the neighborhood on all the photos of Bogota. Don't miss Plaza Bolívar and historical monuments all around: the National Capitol, Museum of Independence, Bogota Museum, Liévano Palace, the Botero Museum, the Gold Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Bogota, the Archaeological Museum (Casa del Marqués de San Jorge) , Primada Cathedral and many others. Not far, the Parque Metropolitano Tercer Milenio is the green lung of the neighborhood.

North of the historic district, Chapinero (122,991 inhabitants) is more than a neighborhood, but a city in the city. In fact, Chapinero has 50 neighborhoods! It is described as one of the most charming of Bogota, inside the Zona Rosa. The area is green – located in the Cerro de Montserrate – and quiet, with many restaurants, bars and nightclubs, shopping centers: a very popular area to stay in Bogota by foreign tourists. It is also there that you have to sleep in Bogota if you like to party (though avoid too wandering in town alone at 4 o’clock in the morning, in unknown streets...). To get out of the concrete, the park Quebrada la Vieja will fill your desires of nature.
