Its waters are very salty and offer a very amazing visual appearance with a vivid rose whose origin always remains a mystery. Since it was discovered in 1802, Hillier Lake has never lost its superb or attractive colour.
Measuring 600 meters long, separated from the ocean by magnificent white sand dunes, Hillier Lake is located precisely in the heart of an eucalyptus forest that is delimited by a linen of white salts. The Hillier pink lake was first mentioned at the beginning of the 19th century in the accounts of explorer Matthew Flinders, a browser and one of the most remarkable cartographers of his time.

An irresolute mystery
The strength of this lake is not only in its fantastic, almost dreamy color, but especially in the fact that many scientific expeditions have not yet been able to identify the true origin of this singular complexion.
While many of them felt that the pink colour came from the bottom of the lake, it is currently nothing. Others would think – and this is the most accepted thesis today and yet unfounded – that the bright pink color would come from a green algae that is often found in the salt marshes – the Dunaliela Salina – and bacteria that would develop due to the high salinity rate of Hillier Lake.
Even by filling your glass with water from this lake, it will retain its pink color.
But the mystery remains and as always, new legends appear and more and more curious, tourists, aficionados of the strange or simply lovers of beautiful landscapes land from the four corners of the planet to admire this wonderful natural spectacle.
