The Ecusson, Historic Centre

It is the largest pedestrian centre in Europe: the Ecusson is the best area to sleep in Montpellier if you want to see everything and do everything on foot, without a car or public transport. Museums, art galleries, bars and restaurants open their doors, whether you are on the side of Saint-Roch and its "bobos" restaurants, to Sainte-Anne and its bars, to the famous rue de l’Aiguillerie – frequented by the youth for its alternative bars -, to Pitot, the Parc du Peyrou and the Jardin des Plantes, or to the area of Ancien-Courrier, It is easy to get lost in this great maze of medieval streets, but it is the best area to stay in Montpellier.

Place de la Comédie and Corum

This is the busiest area in Montpellier. The Place de la Comédie, the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle and the Corum, cover everything you need to spend a good time in the city: walks, shopping, restaurants and concert bars or terraces to enjoy the sun all year round. Throughout the year, the Comedy – or the Com’ – is the main square. The Esplanade – or “Spanla” – welcomes the festivities of the city (the Summer in summer, Winter in winter), the bookists, and the Christmas market: a place of encounter and passage where it is good to stroll. A pleasant area close to the train station, ideal if you have to take a train early in the morning, but very touristic.

Les Beaux-Arts

Les Beaux-Arts is a life of a small village in the city that takes place: small markets and places frequented by the « chic hippies » – understanding alternative youth modestly easy – there is a heterogeneous population, amateur of ecology, festivals of all kinds and alternative culture. It is also an excellent life in a popular neighborhood where renting an apartment is affordable: street concerts (don’t miss the Fanfares Festival in June), markets, art exhibitions, lodging in Beaux-Arts offers everything that is better than two minutes from the city centre.

Les Arceaux

We do not miss the Arceaux thanks to the arches of the Roman Aqueduct. Here, the old man mixes with the new and the natives do not miss to value ecology, the consumption of organic products while going to find an old vinyl, a bag of spices in Gambetta, or cheap clothes to the local frying, and enjoying a tea or a beer on the terrace. The proximity to the Ecusson makes the Arceaux a good place to stay, away from the tourist frenzy of the Com’. Not far from there, Figuerolles. We feel that the area never stops, there is always life. Concerts, nice bars, and especially markets every day, where we find cheap products.

Port-Marianne, the new city

The new city is not far from the banks of the Lez. The area is pleasant to stay in new and design apartments. Again, the area is taken from students, the Faculty of Economics and Law being very close. It is a good compromise between urban life (proche du centre-ville en tramway) and nature: you can quickly reach the beach road. If you come to Montpellier to attend the FISE, then it is in the Port-Marianne / Rives du Lez district that you have to stay.
