On the way to a surprising discovery!
History of the Serralves Museum
The Serralves Foundation was established in 1989, while the Serralves Foundation was founded in 1989. Casa da Serralves and the park had already opened their doors since 1987. It was only in 1991 that the Museum project was launched. The building was inaugurated in 1999.
The superb contemporary art museum of Serralves is located in a magnificent building designed by Alvaro Siza Vieira , famous contemporary Portuguese architect. The site is organized and arranged according to the last precepts of museological reflection. In harmony with its time, the museum plays with light and space, while modulating its structures according to the thematic approach. No detail is left to chance. Everything is subtly and intelligently orchestrated, in order to transport the visitor to a non-common artistic universe.
If beyond the works it houses, the museum is a work of art in itself, its gardens of eighteen hectares have nothing to envy it. Between French and English gardens, the art lover will be charmed by the surrounding nature bathed in various atmospheres. At the turn of a bosquet or basin, do not miss the Casa da Serralves . This Art Deco jewel of the 1930s, ranked among the Iconic Houses , was partly designed by French architect Charles Siclis. Only flat, the inside is empty.
