Located feet in the China Sea, Shanghai is the most populous megalopolis of China and is one of the largest cities in the world. With 30.15 million inhabitants in the agglomeration, and 70.5 million people throughout the urban area – imagine a conurbation making the size of the French population –, Shanghai is an economic, financial, cultural and cosmopolitan hub of China. Finding where to sleep in Shanghai is not difficult, because the development of the offer of accommodation is staggering.

The city attracts millions of Chinese and international tourists all year round and is divided into two main areas by the Huangpu River: Pudong and Puxi. Here is our tour of the neighbourhoods where to stay in Shanghai.

Xuhui

Historical centre, the Xuihui district covers the former French colonial concession and attracts many expatriates under its European style. It is a quiet, residential area, away from the tumultuous jungle in the city centre, but it is also a expensive area to stay in Shanghai. Its soil – deprived of private property – is a palimpsest: the nine succes to the old continuously and there are singular contrasts induced by the changes of the urban space. It is a vibrant and lively neighbourhood, with a plethora of cheap restaurants, shops and shops. Jing’an

The famous eponymous Buddhist temple gave it its name, it is the most central district of Puxi district. It is also the richest and most expensive in Shanghai because it attracts entrepreneurs, executives and businessmen. In fact, high-end residential areas are pullulent. Here too, the former is the modern one: the Jing An temple, for example, stands in the midst of the skyscrapers of a liberal society open to the market economy. Huangpu

Here, 430 000 people live on a space of 4.5 km2 – the equivalent of the Toulouse population on the area of Épinay s/ Seine (93) - which makes this neighborhood one of the densest in the world. Bordered by the river of the same name, the Huangpu district is popular for its cultural activities and sites. It is therefore a tourist destination in Shanghai. There is the Bund – a historic boulevard full of sumptuous European-style buildings – the theatre of People’s Square, many museums and green spaces. You will enjoy a central position to sleep in Shanghai.

Pudong

A real business district in Shanghai, it is one of the most visited areas by tourists because of the many skyscrapers that pushed it: this is one of the most visited areas by tourists. skyline leaves a small air from Manhattan to Asia. To stay in Shanghai, we leave on the other side of the Huangpu River. 5 million people are involved in 523 km2, mainly multinational companies and firms (banks, high technology, industrial, etc.). You can visit the symbols of Shanghai: the Tour de Perle Orientale, or Perle de l’Orient (up to 468 metres), the Parc du Siècle, the Jinmao Tower or the Shanghai World Financial Center. The area obviously has countless shopping malls and fine boutiques. Also admire the sparkling lights of the buildings at dusk.
