History of the Paris Zoological Park

The Paris Zoological Park is more known as the Zoo de Vincennes . His story began with the colonial exhibition held in 1931. This event, which lasts six months, is therefore an opportunity to introduce exotic animals to the general public. This ephemeral zoo was a great success.

As early as the first Sunday following the inauguration, more than fifty thousand visitors pressed (against the ten thousand expected). And for cause: they could contemplate elephants, lions, giraffes, baboons and other animals transported from Africa. This success led the City of Paris to join in National Museum of Natural History to create an animal garden. So the Zoo of Vincennes was born.

Its design was entrusted to the architect Charles Letrosne inspired by Carl Hagenbeck’s model in Hamburg. The principle is simple: making visitors feel that they discover animals in their natural environment. For this, artificial rocks allow to camouflage technical installations. Instead of grids, large ditches delineate animal enclosures. Thus, they can be admired without the possibility of escape.

However, almost fifty years after its opening, the installations of the Zoo de Vincennes begin to show signs of weakness. Little by little, renovations are initiated and animals are transferred to other parks to be able to close the park. Major work has been carried out since 2008.

What to see and what to do at the Paris Zoological Park?

The Paris Zoological Park is organized in five biozones to be discovered by: Madagascar, Patagonia, Amazonia-Guyane, Africa and Europe. During the school holidays, a focus is realized temporarily on one of the areas. These are the wild rendez-vous . How to get to the Paris Zoological Park?

The Paris Zoological Park is located at the level of the Golden door . It is therefore very easily accessible. It has only one entry, on the Daumesnil Avenue Paris 12e.

• By metro

- La line 8 , "Door Door" station. Then we have to count a small one. 10 minutes walking to the entrance of the Paris Zoological Park.

A station is located just at the entrance of the Paris Zoological Park.

• By car

This is undoubtedly the least advantageous way to get to the Paris Zoological Park. All parking facilities around the park are paid, although rates have been negotiated with the city of Paris. You will need to park your car a little away from the park and then borrow one of the public transport mentioned above.

You can visit the Paris Zoological Park when you wish: it is open every day, including holidays.

Summer hours (May 1 to August 31, 2019): daily, between 9:30 and 8:30

Note : winter hours are not known to date, but will be available later on their website.

Rates

The Paris Zoological Park offers different entrances. He is free for children under three years of age . They must still have their ticket, which will be delivered to them on the day of their visit on presentation of an identity document. To benefit from reduced adult rate , you must be applicant for employment or holder of Pass Education . A proof of less than six months will be required at the entrance.

• Annual pass

It is a nominal pass that allows you to visit the Paris Zoological Park as many times as you wish. He is valid for one year from your trip to the park (under a month after the purchase of the pass).

• The undated ticket

He is valid for one year from the date of purchase.

• The Tribu package

He is valid for one year from the date of purchase.

It includes four entries: two adults (13 years and over) — including one major — and two children (between 3 and 12 years). Price: 65 €

• The special night entrance

For exceptional night openings, a unique rate of 15€ is proposed.

• The Silent Zoo ticket

This ticket is valid only on the reserved date. The single rate is 17€ per person.

• The ticket coupled entry and wild rendezvous

The purchase of this ticket gives you access to the Paris Zoological Park on the reserved day. You will also be able to attend the visit of the space being honoured by a mediator.
