When you come to visit Mozart’s house in Vienna, you can’t help but stay close to this imposing 15th century building. Coming today 3 floors , this bourgeois residence had only 2. Originally, the main entrance was located at #8 of the Schullerstrasse , but the modifications to make the building the house that Mozart known — and we have the privilege of knowing again today — were realized by the master stone tailor Andrea Simone Carove , then owner of the building.

After his death, the young Mozart was a tenant — for three years and for an annual rent of 450 guilders — of this cosy residence which became property of the rich Camesina family. Although the great composer lived only 3 short years in this charming townhouse, his reputation was such that it was decided not to undertake any additional work in this place that became major historical site . Apart from some facilities to simplify the visits of many tourists wishing to discover this place so special, the residence is — still today — perfectly identical to the one that sheltered the young prodigy.

Today transformed into museum museum , she presents the life and work of the artist by focusing on her Viennese years in which he was the most productive of his short career. For Mozart, Vienna was a privileged setting in which he could give free lessons to his talent. It must be said that the city, a cultural admiral ship in Europe of the late 18th century, allowed it to immerse itself in a creative and artistic broiling until then unpublished. There he multiplied the encounters and musical demonstrations, côtoya monarchs, great names of the nobility, the bourgeoisie and the business world, and helped to increase a little more the dominant role of the baroque Vienna within the major European cities.

In addition to the permanent exposure , the price of your ticket includes access to one of the temporary exhibitions different every year.

First floor

On the first floor, which housed Mozart and his family 1784 to 1787 , we find the apartment where there were many world famous works from its crazy creativity: three of the six Quatuors dedicated to Haydn who became friends with the young composer, as well as the Noces de Figaro ! It is the largest and most luxurious accommodation ever occupied by the master of classical music, but also and especially the only one that remains impeccablely preserved today, the others having been destroyed or completely redesigned.

Featuring 4 large bedrooms, 2 small, a large basement and a nice kitchen (at that time it was a great choice), it is decorated with many images and background documents for people who came to visit Mozart’s house in Vienna. In addition to the illustrations of the young man in his daily life, we find interesting information about his creative techniques, the instruments in vogue at the time that allowed him to express his talent, and a flopa of exciting documents concerning the way of life of the one who can, rightly, be considered the first true “Superstar” of history.

We note the amusing presence of a sublime musical clock designed 1790 and playing a variation of a piece composed for small mechanical instruments, obviously written by the famous composer.

Second floor

On the second floor, reproducing with stucco elements and beautiful murals the way in which the interior of the building was to be decorated at Mozart’s time, one finds a multimedia collection dedicated to musical works of the artist: three-dimensional scenes from The Magic Flute , unknown musical excerpts, and especially Figaro Parallelo offering visitors a comparative audiovisual immersion in the world of “Noces de Figaro”, an iconic opera by Mozart played in many different places in the world.

Third floor

The third floor, for its part, also offers an assortment of multimedia content dedicated to personal and social life the composer. In addition to the socio-political context of the time, one can learn more about his unrested ties with the freemasons (he was a part of it during the last seven years of his life), his passion for the game, his thirst for culture and science (the young man, of a great vivacity of mind, was a notorious scholar), as well as the places he attended in the city of Vienna and which let him think that in the last

Second basement

One of the most surprising places in the building is undoubtedly the second basement: The Bösendorfer Hall . The great acoustic qualities of the place, barded with the latest and perfectly isolated phone equipment, earned it to be converted to a concert hall dedicated to chamber music. We regularly improvise studio recordings!

Regularly, concerts , exhibitions and Conferences are presented. We can even organise private evenings, baptisms and high-end weddings, since it is possible to rent this exceptional space in the heart of Mozart’s home in Vienna.

The shop

Of course, the visit ends with a passage by the shop, offering numerous CD and DVD albums dedicated to Mozart’s works, as well as various books and souvenirs stamped from the seal of Mozart’s home in Vienna.
