Visit the Campanile of Saint Mark in Venice

Campanaire Tour – like the Tower of Pisa – 98.6 metres high, the Campanile de Saint-Marc stands on the margins of the famous Place Saint-Marc in Venice. Built for the first time in the 9th century on Roman ruins, it once served as a watch tower for the port of Venice, at the current location of the Piazzetta dei Leoncini . Several times destroyed, rebuilt and renovated, the last construction of the Campanile dates from 1912. Atop the emblematic tower of Venice allows you to admire a breathtaking view of the city. Here are our tips to visit the Campanile de Saint-Marc.

What to see at the Campanile de Saint-Marc?

Visit the Campanile de Saint-Marc allows you to discover the history of the tower, including its destruction and reconstruction throughout the centuries. At the top is a golden statue of the Gabriel Archangel.

Contemplate the five bell towers that had an important function during the Republic: the « Marangona » the greatest, which sounded the beginning and the end of the working day, « Malefico » announcing death sentences, « Nona » at 9 o'clock, « Trottiera » which indicated to members "Maggior Consiglio" to visit the Chamber of the Council and the "Mezza terza" announcing the beginning of the Senate sitting.

From the top you will have a breathtaking view of the Basilica of Saint Mark, the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, the Basilica of San Giorgio Maggiore, as well as some nearby islands as Murano .

Schedules and rates of visit of Campanile de Saint-Marc

It is obviously possible to visit the Campanile de Saint-Marc all year round, but the schedules vary according to the season:

  • April to June: from 9 am to 7 pm,
  • July and August: from 9am to 9pm,
  • September and October: 9 am to 7 pm,
  • From November to March: from 9:30 to 15:45.

The sale of tickets stops one hour before the site closes: make sure to arrive early, because the tourist shortage and the waiting queue could make you lose a crazy time.

A fee of € 8 per person applies to visit the Campanile de Saint-Marc (18-25, over 65) and € 4 for minors and groups of 20 minimum persons.

To get your tickets to visit the Campanile de Saint-Marc, several solutions are available to you: via the internet by booking in advance, by buying a cut-file ticket to enter as a V.I.P member, or on site but taking the risk of having a long queue.

You enter the site by a dedicated entrance and start the visit without passing through the queue, to climb to the top of the tower by taking the lift from Campanile.

The visit allows you to admire a breathtaking view of Venice: the islands and the lagoon, to the Dolomites in clear time.

To visit the Campanile de Saint-Marc, you are advised to access it by using public transport . Using the vaporetto, the bus on the water: San Zaccaria or San Marco, lines 1, 2, 41, 42, 51, 52, N and LN.
