In Malta, a village that served as the decor of the musical Popeye
The amusement parks have been on the coast for a few years: whether it is about the Asterix Park, the Disney Park or more thematic parks such as the Puy-du-Fou or the Futuroscope, the choices are not missing.
But when you decide to go for a walk in Europe and especially on the island of Malta, can you imagine that there is such a great attraction? The answer is “yes”, of course, with the amusement park of village of Popeye to Malta .
The origins of this village created from any room

Located a few 20 kilometers from the Maltese capital, La Valette, the unusual village that is recognized thanks to its rustic buildings is today a must-see place when you are on the island.
The origin of this park is the film of the 1980s, film by Robert Altman, in which the late Robin Williams embodied the famous sailor. The film, or rather the musical, was a flop: Hollywood studios saw things in great depth. They brought out a wooden village from the ground that served as a decor to the film with about 20 wooden structures, a road to access the site and finally made them erect a breeze on the bay of Anchor to protect the decor of the high seas.
This whole debauchery of materials and innovation is not enough to save the film, but the decor has been known for a second life with the park, which meets great success with Maltese and tourists.

The village of Popeye is not Disney Park, let’s hear well, but it offers a wonderful walk for children and parents in a near-authentic village. The children will be happy to find the main characters of the band-dessinée while the parents will be able to discover the scenes of the shooting with the animation team.
In addition, the village of Popeye also offers activities such as a boat ride, trampolines, a beach with its terraces to sunbathe, shops and many seasonal activities.
In practice
The village of Popeye is accessible throughout the year, between 9:30 and 17:30 on average. Rates start at 10.50 euros per adult and 8 euros for children. We recommend going by car or by taxi because no bus stops directly in front of the village. Note that there are shuttles that organize transfers from some hotels.
