6 tips to pack effectively

1. The bigger your suitcase, the more you fill it

The best way to avoid taking too many clothes is to buy a rigid wall suitcase, and not higher than about 55 cm (so you can take it in hand luggage). This will require you to take only what you need, and you will not be able to return all superfluous clothes and accessories.

2. Follow the rule of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

If you need advice to streamline your wardrobe, use the "5, 4, 3, 2, 1" rule for a week trip. Limit yourself to no more than 5 underwear and 5 pairs of socks, 4 highs, 3 lows, 2 pairs of shoes and 1 hat (if you wear one). Obviously, the list can be adjusted according to your needs. Take a swimsuit and sports equipment or a suit jacket or dress if you need it.

3. Put on your bed what you think you will need, then remove without pity

Ask yourself twice if you need every garment. Tell yourself that if on site you really need a garment, you can buy it.

4. Pack your suitcase as if you play Tetris

The best way to get everything in one suitcase is to fill each centimetre of free space. For example, shoes must be stuffed with your socks. Place your quinconce shoes at the bottom of your suitcase in a plastic bag not to salt your clothes. Then the way you organize your suitcase is a matter of personal preference.

Here are some good practices to store your suitcase:

  • Roll your clothes on themselves. This allows to maximize space and minimize folds.
  • Test it. « Single package» technique : Carefully wrap each garment around a central core, with underwear and T-shirts in the centre, and great items like jackets and dresses on the outer layer.

5. Keep your toilet kit accessible

Your toilet kit should always be placed on the top not only to have access to it if you want to make your toilet at an airport, but also so that the customs can easily access it without disturbing everything.

6. Always have a mini-bath for transport

In addition to your toilet kit, always plan a mini-trousse for transport needs (toothbrush, contact lenses, cream...), preferably easily accessible. This avoids you getting your big kit out of the transport.
