The submerged forest of Kaindy Lake in Kazakhstan

Natural curiosity in Kazakhstan

The Lake Kaindy is a 400-metre long lake located in the Kazakh part of the Tian Mountains, located 129 km from the city of Almaty . The lake was created following an earthquake in 1911, which triggered an important landslide blocking the throat and forming a natural dam. Subsequently, rainwater filled the valley and formed the lake.

The lake is famous for its picturesque beauty , and in particular for its immersed forest and large spruce trunks that rise out of the lake water, piercing the surface of the water. Above water, submerged trees appear as submerged trees large masts ghost ships, or spears of a mysteriously hidden army and waiting for the right time to go out. This lake stimulates imagination!

The water is so cold (even in summer the temperature does not exceed 6 degrees) that the needles remain on the trees, 100 years later . Due to clear mountain water, you can see deep in the water of the lake, deep 30 meters. In winter, the surface of the lake is frozen and at this time Lake Kaindy becomes an ideal place for trout and trout fishing scuba diving .
