Ephemeral street art on the Bowery Wall in New York
The Bowery Mural is an outdoor exhibition space located at the corner of Houston Street and Bowery, New York, on a wall belonging to Goldman Properties since 1984. Real estate developer Tony Goldman started the project with Jeffery Deitch and Deitch Projects in 2008. Goldman’s goal was to use this wall to present the best contemporary artists from all over the world, focusing on the artists working on the street. Des ephemeral murals have appeared on the wall and are exhibited and organized in collaboration with The Hole NYC , a Soho art gallery managed by the former directors of Deitch Projects in this case, Kathy Grayson and Meghan Coleman.
The initiative to set up the Houston Bowery Wall to New York and inviting artists to work on it comes from the desire to reborn one of the most famous walls in the city. Keith Haring renamed the wall by painting an original mural without permission in 1982. With the acquisition of the wall, the Goldman family felt responsibility for bringing art and beauty closer to the general public. Each "rebirth" of the wall makes it possible to make the place known to the whole world known and emerging street art artists from the United States and the world known. Thus, he conveys a powerful message of hope, opportunity and inspiration to young and less young people.
The first fresco was therefore a tribute to Keith Haring "exposed" between March and December 2008 and one can see a part in this photo.
