The 8 most beautiful hikes to do in the Lot

In the heart of South-West France, Lot is one of the most popular destinations in the region, with great must-sees such as Rocamadour, the Gouffre de Padirac or Cahors... Much of the department is protected by Quercy Regional Natural Park , whose simple evocation is enough for many hikers to put on their walking shoes and go sticks in their hands.

It must be said that hiking in the Lot brings together a bit of everything that can be expected of a lover of great walks: ancient villages, spectacular and preserved sites, characteristic natural landscapes, deep valleys and decoupled reliefs... a feast!

1. The Pilgrims to the Rocamadour

We immediately enter the lively theme with this famous hike of the Lot, starting from the unmissable Rocamadour. The site of the village, among the most visited in France, is exceptional and makes you want to be explored.

This is precisely what this path, a pilgrimage dedicated to the Virgin, passes through beautiful reliefs, between the valleys of Ouysse and Alzou, before going back to Rocamadour and lingering in the village.

Forecast: the water supply, because it can be hot in the Lot.

2. Padirac, Loubressac and Autoire

Here is another superb hike in the Lot, a little demanding, but you will be rewarded with several memorable stages: the Padirac swell, a spectacular natural site of the department, but also two villages classified among the most beautiful French villages, Loubressac and Autoire.

The bravest will turn around through the Autire Waterfall, but keep in mind that this route is long enough and requires energy: plan to go back to the day to take your time.

3. Alzou Gorges in Rocamadour

With a site as unique as that of Rocamadour, it is not surprising to find several of the most beautiful hikes in the Lot: always from the village, one descends this time to discover the gorges of Alzou, whose bed has deeply dug the limestone rocks.

The itinerary is beautiful, through the forest along the river, it follows the bottom of the canyon before going up to take height, and return to Rocamadour.

4. The banks of the Lot since Saint-Cirq-Lapopie

In the Lot Valley, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is another of these beautiful villages in the department that it would be a shame to miss: its site is well worth Rocamadour!

From the top of its cliffs, Saint-Cirq-Lapopie dominates the course of the Lot: here leaves a beautiful path that follows the road of halage, from which you can make a superb loop, to Bouziès. The Lot Valley in all its splendor!

A half-day walk, which can be extended to Saint-Géry for the most motivated.

5. The tower of Mont Saint-Cyr in Cahors

While you will pass through Cahors to visit the city and discover its wines, enjoy it to make another nice hike of the Lot: the tower of Mont Saint-Cyr.

The advantage of this circuit is its starting point directly in the city: a small climber that we feel passing leads you to the top of Mont Saint-Cyr, for a breathtaking view of the Lot valley and Cahors. The descent is done in a large loop that runs along the river to return to its starting point.

6. The English trail from Brengues

Also called in the cliff trail corner, this other name gives a better idea of the scenery that you cross with this pretty Lot hike. Through well-cut landscapes, we see the ruins of ancient castles: it is from these ruins that this path was baptized, because the English occupied the places in the Middle Ages!

From the small town of Brengues, magnificent views are offered along the Célé valley. An easy access hike, for everyone, which also exists in a slightly longer version (8 km).

7. A tower in the Lot valley from Cénevières

Return to the Lot Valley, where there are many walking routes. Here, it is a beautiful course to be realized on the day, with several milestones on both sides of the river: Cénevières and its castle, the perched village of Calvignac, Larnagol and its dolmens, La Toulzanie and its troglodyte habitat, all in a setting of limestone cliffs cut to the rope.

8. The highs of Sousceyrac

Perfect after a beautiful rando of ten kilometers without major difficulty, in the countryside, for a walk under the sign of tranquility!
