The Harmandir Sahib, a legendary temple
This is the most sacred sanctuary of Sikhism: Temple of Gold . This legendary temple is actually a small part of this huge complex that is the Gurdwara Karamsar, Rara Sahib, known to Sikhs as Harmandir Sahib (or Darbar Sahib ).
Spiritually, the focus of attention is basin that surrounds the sparkling central sanctuary, the Amrit Sarovar ("Basin au Nectar"), whose name Amritsar derives. He was dug by the fourth guru Ram Das in 1577. Surrounded by a marble bridge, the reservoir would have healing powers, and pilgrims from all over the world (between 60 and 80,000 a day) bathe in the sacred waters.
