The water of the lake is brine (water whose salt content is significantly less than that of the sea), it is a mixture of sea water and fresh water. The cave is located about 500 meters from the sea. The water has a maximum depth of 30 m and the water level is 36 m at the bottom of the cave. On the one hand the lake is open, on the other it is lit to electricity.

The best time to visit the cave is in the middle of a sunny day. Barks show you both parts of the cave separated by an island. The cave looks strangely like Mexico's cenotes.
In Greek mythology, Melissani was the nymph cave.

The cave is very visited by tourists and it’s a shame because, so, one can only stay for about ten minutes inside after paying dear. You can also take a longer guided tour with a diving school. You can watch the cave from above thanks to a balcony that was built for it.
