The 20 best places to make camping in Europe

This summer, go to one of the best campsites in Europe, in the heart of nature! Here are 20 of the most beautiful campsites in Europe!

The campsite is one of the most accessible ways to discover a country or continent at a lower cost. Take your tent and here you go to discover Europe, from Swedish lakes to Greek beaches – with hiking, discovering fauna and flora and watching stars on the programme. Overview of the most beautiful sites campsites in France and Europe :

1. Camping La Pointe, Bretagne, France

Place yourself in one of the spacious spots on the banks of the Aulne – where you can fish salmon (with a permit) in the nearby rivers. The masters of the place give you the pastries every morning to your tent, and encourage you to observe, a glass of wine by hand, fauna (cerfs slaps, squirrels, piverts, cauliettes...). The camping situation also allows you to explore the rest of the Crozon peninsula.

2. Le Clos du Lac, Provence, France

Perched at 1,485 metres along the Écrins National Park, this mountainous site offers stunning views from the opening of your tent and a variety of exceptional outdoor experiences. Lake Serre-Ponçon is a few minutes’ walk away, for swimming or fishing, and the nearby forest of Boscodon offers many hiking trails. At the campsite there is a volleyball site, a playground for children and a botanical garden that houses nine species of butterflies. At night, star observation is superb.

3. Landgoed de Barendonk, Beers, Netherlands

Don't be fooled by the name of the village: this campsite is resolutely family friendly. In the area of Barendonk (with houses and historic Flemish barns), this dairy farm is a mosaic of green fields surrounded by doves. Although there are pitches for campers and caravans, there is an area reserved exclusively for tents. There is also a room in bad weather where you can dry your clothes, eat, sit and plan your next day by bike (available for rent on site), walk or face the challenge of the geocaching (GPS treasure hunt).

4. Le Chant-hibou, Auvergne, France

This small but spacious camping site located in a modest farm not only has a zoo for children, where they can make hugs to animals, but in the summer there are also daily activities to do as help pick up the eggs, make biscuits, paint the face, ride on tractors and listen to stories about a campfire. The site is quiet, with a swimming pool.

5. D’Olde Kamp, Ansen, Netherlands

This wooded site has a choice of outdoor pitches or more private pitches, and some personal touches such as coffee service every morning, hot order bread, barbecues, outdoor pizza oven and free wifi. It offers all the advantages of a location in the countryside without the feeling of being rudimentary. Goats, donkeys, chickens and rabbits are your neighbours – children can feed them with the farmer and get a “farm degree”.

6. Camping de la Cascade, Coo, Belgium

This small campsite is located on the river Amblève in the Ardennes, a region of forests and hilly hills. Here, campers can fish, swim, walk, cycle and walk in a little crowded landscape, while cars are parked remotely (no vehicle remains on the pitches once unloaded). Nearby, in the village of Coo, there are waterfalls worthy of a fairy tale. And to crown it all, you can taste the famous Belgian beer – you can order 15 different in the bar on site.

7. Zur Mühle, Black Forest, Germany

Not to be confused with a site of the same name in Bavaria, Zur Mühle offers terraced pitches with views of the hills between the trees. The focus is on relaxation – it’s a peaceful site – no clubs or games areas. There is a stream to paddle, and guided walks and cycle paths for the most energetic. With fresh bread available on order and a few grocery stores on site, it is the ideal place to keep and do nothing at all.

8. Camping Mexico, Bregenz, Austria

There are not many campsites where you will have a view of two other countries since the opening of your tent, but Camping Mexico is not like the other campsites. Near the shore of the Lake Constance – a huge water plan that borders Austria, Germany and Switzerland, it offers the possibility to swim in the lake after a day of walking or sightseeing. And there's a lot to see. An easy-to-follow cycle track runs along the site and makes the lake tour. Then, when you have enough, jump into one of the trains to go to the cities around your choice.

9. Camping Lindenhof, Bern, Switzerland

Lindenhof is located in the middle of the wine-growing slopes of Seeland, a stone's throw from the lake of Bienne, overlooking the hills of the Jura opposite. Bicycle along the rivers, walk to the Creux du Van (the Swiss Grand Canyon) or walk through the vineyards. The site itself is ecological, heating the farm with solar energy and wood from its own forest, while apples and cherries grown in the orchard are sold on site.

10. Camping Val d’Or, Enscherange, Luxembourg

Camping in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg does not often come to mind. But his relative anonymity means that he does not stir up tourists. Located in a beautiful elbow of the Clerve River, Val d’Or offers friendly pitches for families and more private places with high hedges. Speaking of toddlers, there are three playgrounds, one of which is the theme of water. There are bikes for rent, two walks in nature from the site, a bar and free wifi.

11. Camping Carso, Trieste, Italy

Managed by the same family since 1932, this organic fruit and vegetable farm is a mix of countryside and forest, where campers can pick their own products or buy supplies, regional wines and local honey at the store on site. Ecological assets do not stop there: owners are also eager to participate in the preservation of the site, insisting on the water economy and the minimization of waste. For a real eco-pause, the train stops a few kilometers from Sistiana.

12. Camping Camino de Santiago, Burgos, Spain

If this campsite takes the name of the pilgrimage path in the direction of Santiago de Compestela in Galicia, north-west of Spain, bulbs, backpacks and offerings in St Jacques are not prerequisites to stay here. In fact, the emphasis is on simplicity. From the on-site restaurant to fresh pastries and bread delivered daily, the owners do everything they can to make the stay a paradise. There are birds observation activities from time to time (the area houses 361 species), pilgrims to be spotted, and the sites are divided by hedges to preserve privacy.

13. Camping Port Massaluca, Catalonia, Spain

Flavoured, white-bellied Martinet, pilgrim falcon... If you are already looking for your twins, this Catalan campsite, located about 200 km west of Barcelona, will not be disappointed. At the confluence of Matarraña and Ebro, under the sandy and spectacular cliffs, all these birds can be observed breeding in the rocks above the campsite. If you are more fan of sandstone, carp, bass, perch and catfish, then you will also be in your element, because it is also the perfect site to fish – although there is competition from local martins-fishers, herons, cormorans and grebes, of course.

14. Quinta dos Moinhos, Braga, Portugal

There may be only six pitches, but there is a lot to do on this campsite located in northern Portugal: table tennis, balls, mountain biking and kayak rental... The nearby village of Vila Nune deserves a detour – especially on Monday, when the market is open – and a little further is Serra de Cabreira, which has hiking trails formed by herds of beasts. Nearby are Alvão Natural Park and Peneda-Gerês National Park.

15. Camping Nature Ferie, Hals, Denmark

If you thought the private beaches were the guarded hunt of the guests of the five-star hotels, get out. Because for 10 € per night, campers have access to an exclusive part of the coast near the northern tip of Denmark and can ride a bike on a number of bike paths – try the cyclable route of the North Sea or the national number 5, which extends across the east coast.

16. Fyrvapplingen Fiskecamp, Uppsala, Sweden

At 1h30 drive north of Stockholm is this spacious campsite, with several bike paths nearby. Although its location on the shore of the lake means that it is perfect for swimming and fishing, the focus is on proximity to nature. Surrounded by wood – where you can look for food – each location offers space and tranquility, and there is a common barbecue.

17. Camp Vala, Mokalo, Croatian

Near the island Korčula (which would be the birthplace of Marco Polo), this small coastal campsite combines sea, mountain and forest. With pines and olive trees spread over its pitches, the shade is ensured for the heat of the mid-day. It is also a few steps from a pebble beach where swimmers can observe rays, crabs, urchins and sea stars. There is a pizzeria on site and a bar on the beach, both at reasonable prices.

18. Camp Liza, Bovec, Slovenia

The problem with many other campsites can be the huge motorhomes that park next to your modest tent. In Kamp Liza, motorhomes and caravans are allowed, but there is a special area where no vehicles are allowed, only for tents – and it is just on the edge of the Koritnica River. From the site there is a lot to do: hiking on a section of the Alpe Adria Trail, cycling, e-bike or mountain biking in the surrounding valleys and hills, or registering for rafting, kayaking or canyoning.

19. Camp 9 Nature Campground, Silesia, Poland

Near the town of Tarnowskie Góry, the attraction of this small campsite is not only the calm and silence that the pitches offer by the water, but also the proximity of several other countries – it is close to the border of Slovakia (with its mountains of the Tatras to explore), the Czech Republic and Western Ukraine unexplored. For history lovers, there are visits of bunkers nearby; for sportsmen, there are bike paths directly from the campsite, and for those who want to do nothing at all, you could not choose a better place.

20. Tartaruga Camping, Zakynthos, Greece

The setting of this campsite is worthy of a dream: a campsite perched on natural terraces in the middle of an olive grove of 700 olive trees, overlooking the bay of Laganas from your tent. You can scuba diving with the turtles that visit the adjacent beach, eat in the small on-site restaurant where the owner gets the ingredients every day from local fishermen and sleep at the sound of the cicadas. Pinch yourself... This place is real.

Do you know any other campsites that could be among the most beautiful campsites in Europe?
