Near Las Vegas, an artist has set up a funny colorful installation in the middle of the desert: huge rocks are assembled to form original structures.
While an artificial wooden cave was designed in England, on the other side of the Atlantic, it is a stone construction that has seen the day and shows great interest to tourists. Ugo Rondinone is a Swiss artist who works in America, and more specifically in New York. To respond to a common request from Nevada Museum of Art de Reno and Art Production Fund , it has developed a project in the middle of nature that is far from passing unnoticed in the landscape. Indeed, he gathered large rocks on the ground, to paint them with color bombs, and to assemble them in balance on each other.
The result appears in the form of several gigantic colourful totems, seven artificial mountains in the middle of the desert, near Las Vegas 20 kilometres from the city. He thus appointed his work « Seven Magic Mountains » that the “7 magical mountains” are translated into French. Depending on the angle of view, the structures are seen in different ways: if one is in front, the rocks are aligned, while if one shifts, they seem to form a chaotic set. There is all the subtlety of his art.
