Scott Keyes, the man who travels for free

This man plays the air transportation system so that he never paid for a plane ticket

Scott Keyes is not a traveler like another. Do not believe in this introduction that he is making the world tour by being invited to people as usual. Antoine de Maximy or to go from one city to another by making a stop ... No, Scott, without disbursing any centime, travelling by plane, and in the first class, enjoying a system fault. He recently gave an interview for Business Insider and we wanted to share his techniques and tricks with you free travel . What does this involve? How's he doing? Answers.

To make things clear, Scott Keyes is not a lucky person. Rather, it is what could be called a travel expert at very low cost, all the opposite of those who take a lot of time and energy to look for discount coupons and “satisfied or refunded” items in order to pay only a minimum or even nothing at all. We tell you, Scott Keyes is an expert who even wrote a method for Find cheap flights , that he sells 3 dollars on his website How to fly for free .

Last year, I stole from New York to Milan for $65, last year I went to Belgium for $150.

Scott Keyes is 28 years old and is a journalist for Think Progress , an American liberal political blog. But it is not because of his job that he gets the privilege of flying – almost – for free. His secret? Credit cards. One of them in particular, Amercian Express Platinium , offers it the advantage of having access to lounges provided by American Express at airports, providing its members with food and drinks, high-speed Wi-Fi, spa services, and even its own shower. All for free of course.

This high-end bank card has an annual premium of $450, but Scott Keyes has managed to get it for free for the first year by taking advantage of an online promotional offer. At the end of the year, it will either try to get the card again for free for the following year or it will simply demote its card on a model on which it will only be very little billed.

The fact is that Scott has a collection of 25 bank cards of this kind. So it’s not new for Keyes, which ensures to use its collection of credit cards to earn loyalty points, miles, and many other permanent membership benefits. He then converted his benefits into travels as he planned in the near future, which will lead him over 32,000 km around the world and on 21 different flights, all for free . During the next two months, he visited 13 countries: Mexico, Nicaragua, Trinidad, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Lithuania and Finland.

During this trip, it will pay only the airport taxes, which are mandatory, less than $20 per flight. All the rest, he'll pay it in miles of fidelity, or 136,500 miles in total. Apart from these taxes, Scott Keyes will pay exactly 0€ for his trip, including for his stays in the hotels (he will use the credit card loyalty points that he had "earned" for this specific purpose).

Keyes lived and worked last year in Oaxaca, Mexico, but he is now back in the United States. He realized that it was the perfect opportunity for him to spend some time travelling before finding a new full-time job.

The young American has some methods to get his miles of fidelity, mainly by subscription to new credit cards that grant miles or points. But he tells us Business Insider only “It’s not necessarily easy for a beginner, but the good news is that if you get serious, get ready and learn how to accumulate miles and how to use them, you can start traveling really, really well”

According to him, and the board is for all travellers, even those who do not use miles, it is the flexibility . After visiting 30 countries and doing more than 14 times around the world, we can believe it.

Malin, cunning, benefiting from the system... whatever we say, this young man travels without paying a centime (or almost)!
