Yet, Corfu – Kerkyra in Greek – evokes everything at once: sweetness of life, festivals and strong emotions. The walks in picturesque villages, along the old streets and at the gates of historical monuments, have something incredibly langourous and romantic.

Different atmospheres, quiet as animated, in turn animating the seaside resorts. Hundreds of churches, castles and monasteries, more photogenic ones than others, slow down clock needles.

The vertiginous cliffs and enigmatic seabeds attract the adrenaline addicts. The beautiful beaches with sapphire blue initiate, even the most agitated or stressed of us, contemplation and relaxation.

1. Corfu

The eponymous capital is the starting point of your road trip to Corfu. Moreover, it will also be your arrival point during this route. With its atmosphere Dolce Vita , this pretty port city is worth the detour. She discovers herself along the docks and old alleys.

The fanned facades of ochre and yellow houses are an extremely photogenic urban landscape. Corfu also admires from the top of his old fortress, at the foot of which stretches a pretty little grass beach. A route to Corfu (city) necessarily includes a hook by the Kanoni peninsula. In truth, we come above all to admire and photograph its two tourist icons: Vlacherna and Pontikonissi.

The famous white church of Vlacherna, toizing the sea from its islet, is connected to the farmland by a pier and a lovely little port. The island of Pontikonissi floats next to it. Accessible by boat only, it is especially its old monastery, as only Greece counts, which attracts curiosity. If this kind of postcard attracts you, you can admire a similar setting in the north of Corfu in Limni. There too, a church named Ypapanti stands proudly on its small island.

The crossing to the islands of Paxos and/or Antipaxos is a must in Corfu. It is still from the island capital that you will find the widest choice of excursions.

It's time to really blow you in your road trip to Corfu. Start the engine, head north of the island. Borrow the coastal roads that multiply the spectacular views.

On the way, you will first fall on Gouvia. This charming village has a real Venetian arsenal. From its port to its Greek Orthodox Church, it is an ever-renewed canvas of master. The destination is also very popular with sailing and fishing enthusiasts.

Then, land in Nissaki: a small cove where the blue of the water is equal to the blue of the sky. If the sun-heated cakes are more or less comfortable mattresses, no doubt that the tables raised above will fill you with comfort.

  • Mont Pantokrator : by sinking into the land, join Mount Pantokrator and its (almost) mile altitude. At the top, the view is splendid. You even see Albania. 4. Paleokastritsa and Porto Timoni

Our itinerary in Corfu invites you to iron to the west of the island. Don't worry, Kerkyra is decidedly small.

Although tourist, Paleokastritsa can boast of being one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The advantage is that a road trip to Corfu gives you a lot of freedom. You can therefore go to the less dense attendance hours.

This paradise is overlooked by a monastery, always occupied by monks, offering a grandiose view. In addition to a hike up there and a swim in crystal clear waters, you can also explore caves and seabeds.

Indeed, many of the best diving spots in Corfu surround Paleokastritsa . The Bottle, Monastery, The Anchor, Donald’s Place, Colovri, caves and the remains of lost ships are linked. The passages, dark or bright, give a twist. The holed walls, habitats of marine life, are held as indexes at the end of the world. The trays colonized by the corals enchant the eyes.

Before or after lunch, drive towards Timoni Beach. On the way, take a break Angelókastro . This "Ange Castle", from its rocky promontory with cyclopean dimensions, looks like a true sentinel facing the sea. Although its stone walls have suffered from the assaults of time, they open up on one of the most monumental panoramas of Corfu.

Arrived at Porto Timoni , you discover a surprisingly wild and preserved landscape of tourist assaults. The double paradise beach in the form of an anchor is captivating. It spreads along immaculate bays, with wooded forests and cliffs.

  • Rovinia Beach : one of the most beautiful pebble beaches of Corfu, in the arms of wooded mountains and olive groves, privilege of visitors on foot or by boat. It is located on the side of Paleokastritsa ;
  • Ágios Geórgios Beach : plebiscity of night birds for its bars and nightclubs with water blossom, this beautiful beach changes face in daylight. She puts her shoreline clothes back in peace and dedicated to water sports. It is located near Porto Timoni ;

No road trip to Corfu passes through the Canal d’Amour and Sidari. First of all, there is the city. She pulls out bars, restaurants and nightclubs: a paradise for noctambuls.

Then there is the beach, the Canal d’Amour and its sparkling cliffs. In the backdrop, the natural landscape does not end up seduced lovers of green spaces and wild coves.

After this first stop in the north of the island, discover the beaches of the area including the fabulous Astrakeri. Then drive slowly to your host village for the night: Roda. Its old historical heart, still well-lived, and its large well-appointed sandy beach are full of various amenities and attractions.

  • Palea Perithia : this ancient village, among the most beautiful to see in a road trip to Corfu, remains in an incomparable atmosphere;
  • Cape Drastis : the toothed cliffs become long, smooth and immaculate as snow. Is it Greece or Normandy ? There's something to doubt. These natural barriers bleed and melt into the sea in Cape Drastis. The place is accessible via a very mineral hike.

6. Glyfáda

Change of scenery. Our route to Corfu invites you to discover the south of the island, more confidential. From Sidari, the road enters into pine forests, olive groves and maquis. The sea, at a loss of sight, and some isolated villages accompany you.

The opinions are unanimous: the golden sandy beaches of Glyfáda and Mirtiotissa are among the most beautiful. Hypnotized by the beauty of the place, you could easily pass next to another treasure of the second. Hidden behind the rocky promontory, accessible by a rather dizzying path, it includes a charming colorful monastery. This beach is one of the few completely naturist.

Sablonneuse, shallow, nuanced, let's go back to Glyfáda! This seaside gem, enclosed in the high cliffs, offers only a handful of hotels. First come, first served.

  • Ágios Górdios : located 25 minutes by car from Glyfáda, Agios Gordios deserves a stop. The waters, vineyards and magnificent rocks extend to a loss of sight. The beach is covered with golden sand, ideal bed for sunbathing or resting after a quiet swim. Cherry on the cake? You won't meet a lot of crowds here.

7. Kavos

The southern tip of Corfu is often unknown. That’s precisely why our route to Corfu is to stop there. Put your suitcases in Kavos. Despite its devoid and classic seaside resort, there are delicious and friendly taverns to meet locals.

Its beautiful beaches (including Arkoudilas) are recommended for swimming and nautical activities. Kavos also has an intense and authentic nightlife. It is the landmark of the Greek youth: night birds that know how to party!

Slowly north, along the beautiful hilly roads of the west coast. You will then fall on Korission Lake. The scene changes. For the first time on your road trip to Corfu: plains and fresh water. This protected nature reserve includes habitat for many migratory birds.
