Itinerary for a weekend in Palma without a car

You've been planning a three-day weekend in Palma, but you don't know where to start? Here's a program idea, all without a car!

Palma, as the main city of the island of Mallorca, is a very lively city in which curious residents and tourists cleave on a daily basis. However, its historical heart is not very large, so it is not necessary to have a car to discover the city. In addition, strolling through the streets at your pace will also allow you to immerse yourself in its atmosphere and architecture. So here’s a program proposal for your coming, not forgetting that a weekend goes fast and that it’s also about getting back from a work week. Here we go, follow the guide!

Day 1: Discovery of the city, visit to the cathedral and beach

Starting point for this first day: Plaza de Espana . Very lively place, you can see the railway station that serves the rest of the island. Go then to the « Plaza Porta Pintada » , then take left « Carrer Sant Miquel » . You'll get on the way Plaza Mayor , a central location of the city, where you usually find a small market, music, portraitists and automaton artists. Then continue on the Carrer Colom and you will arrive on the « Plaça Cort » . Here you can watch the impressive city hall, the oldest olive tree in the city, and visit a small museum for free on the pearl craftsmanship of Palma (on the left on the square when you are back to the city hall), which is one of the most famous internationally.

Then continue on the « Carrer du Palau Reial » , street that will lead you to the "Seu" or otherwise to the (famous) Catedral-Basílica de Santa María , in front of it the “Palacio”, a former castle which still serves today for some official ceremonies. You can also walk along the ramparts that surround the city and admire the « Parc de la mar » , with palm trees and water. To protect you from heat, I advise you to eat in its surroundings and to visit the cathedral and palacio between 1pm and 4pm (visit information information for the cathedral - information for the palacio ).

Finally go down and walk along « Parc de la mar » in the direction of "Portixol", you can cross and continue your path along the bay, you will arrive on the beach, or I propose you to finish your day, to set foot in the water!

Day 2: Market, Arab Baths and Sports Drive

Starting point for the second day: "La Rambla" . Such a large coloured avenue, the central splendor is a flower market. At the end of this avenue take the stairs that face you and you will arrive again Plaza Mayor . Take her back. « Carrer San Miguel » and discover “ Mercat de l’Olivar” located « Plaça de l’Olivar » . In this covered market, enjoy the colours of the fruits and vegetables, the smell of charcuterie and finally freshness in the fishery area. I advise you to have lunch here, fish lovers will feast!

I then propose you to visit the « Baños árabes » (the Arab baths) that are located in the "Cartier Can Serra". This place is certainly small, but it is very pleasant to rest in the shade of trees in the garden. To get there, take the time to discover the quieter streets of the city and the local life, passing through different streets to the east of Plaza Mayor .

In the late afternoon, beach lovers will be able to go back easily, and I suggest to those who like to vary the pleasures of continuing the ride on the bay beyond Portixol. You will cross this small port, then you will continue on the seafront of "El Molinar". Throughout the bay there is a cycle path where bike enthusiasts, soccer, rollerblers, or dynamic walking cross and spend themselves. You can see if you want to join them! You can also eat on the bay and admire the sunset facing the sea.

Day 3: Shopping, modern art museum and last festive evening

Point of departure of this third day: Plaza Mayor . For shopping enthusiasts, continue on the "Jaumé II" street, where you can also venture into perpendicular streets. For those who flee the crowds, go to "La Rambla", where this time you will not climb the stairs but continue your way along the avenue to pass in front of the imposing theatre of the city. You'll be here. « Rie Joan Charles I » which also has a central land on which animations are sometimes organized.

Shopping enthusiasts can continue their shopping in the different streets around this square. Take it, then. « Carrer Saint Feliu » , large and beautiful street animated. Continue on Llotja Street and visit the same name building for free, which is renowned for its singular architecture. You can take a break and have lunch nearby. Then, along the sea side and the city walls (in the opposite direction to "Portixol"), you will head to Es Baluard, the modern art museum (near the garden) Sa Feixina ). Once again you can protect yourself from the heat during the visit.

For the end of the afternoon, walk along the impressive port of Palma, and discover another face of the city. You can finally come back on your steps and take the boulevard Argentina, which is on the border between the modern art museum and, on the other hand, the festive area in which you can dine, try cocktails and why not dance!
