You who are going to visit the island of Hokkaido in Japan and its capital, here is a presentation of the neighborhoods where to stay in Sapporo!

Sapporo is the fifth largest city in Japan, with a population of 1,948,262 inhabitants. The city is crossed by the Toyohira River and along the Ishikari River north. Its climate is very cold in winter but is nevertheless more bearable in summer than the other cities of Japan: with a latitude of 43° north – yet the same latitude as Narbonne – the thermal amplitude is -4,6° C in January and 21.7°C in July on average. Renting a accommodation to stay in Sapporo will be expensive, so say it immediately.

The city of Sapporo is symbolized by lilacs, muguet and coucou, is concentrated within it many tourist sites or other essential activities. This city Aïnous – from the name of the native people living there since the Prehistory -, colonized by the Japanese in 1866 under the impulse of Emperor Meiji, is also known for his eponymous beer, the Sapporo.

A typical regional cuisine, vast green spaces, a dynamic art scene, many places to go out in the evening, world-renowned sports events and countless museums and concert halls: this is all Sapporo has to offer to its residents and visitors. Here are the areas where to stay in Sapporo.

Susukino

Susukino is located in the city centre. This is Sapporo’s most festive and nocturnal neighbourhood. Sapporo beer flows in 4,500 restaurants and other bars. Be careful, this neighborhood where to stay in Sapporo is noisy, a soul in search of tranquility abstain! Susukino lives mainly at night and it is not uncommon to see the employees at the end of service come drinking at the taverns in the city centre.

There is not only the drink here: it is there that you can enjoy the best seafood in the region (crabs, sea urchins, Santiagos, coconuts) as well as the Genghis Kan (crushed lamb) and Sapporo Râmen. If you like cold and snow, visit Sapporo in February to attend the snow festival and its huge ice sculptures in Odori Park and the Tsudome Stadium.

Between fish and seafood markets, shrines and shrines, tourist monuments – Tour de l’clock, JR Tower, Sapporo TV Tower (90 meters high to have stunning views of the city) -, Nakajima Park or Kitara Concert Hall, the numerous bars and restaurants of Susukino, no one will be bored. This effervescent neighborhood that never sleeps is ideal where to stay in Sapporo but be careful, it is also groubling world.

Higashi

In the north of Susukino, a large quarter of the Tour de l’Horloge to the banks of the Ishikari River: Higashi. This is where you have to go to visit the Sapporo beer museum, where you can stroll through Moerenuma Park.

It is a very educational and student area: many colleges, high schools and university campuses are spreading the pavement of the neighbourhood. For example, staying in Higashi will allow you to be in contact with a rather young and trendy population, frequenting bars and restaurants, art galleries or simply, creating animation in the nightlife. Generally, we love it!

Chuo

Chuo is the district of the city centre and both the mountains of the southwest. It is the district that concentrates most of the hotels where to stay in Sapporo, where you can visit the city without losing too much time in the transport.

On the green side, the Maruyama zoo in Sapporo – allowing to contemplate lions, giraffes, hippopotamus, kangaroos, a variety of monkeys, birds – extends around a virgin forest that attracts locals and tourists: a true national monument. The district also provides a tour of the Hokaido University Museum, which houses 400,000 plants, two million insects, 190,000 fish samples and more than 2,000 invertebrates.
