Who owes his name to a Portuguese priest, Saint Antoine de Padua , is a charming typical Mediterranean city, which presents the peculiarity of being zebrated with arcades lanes and punctuated with gigantic places, as in Venice or Trévise of which it is very close on historical and architectural plans. It shares with them a symbiosis with the river that passes through it, the Bacchiglione, which forms lizard channels between its walls. The heart of Padua is certainly one of the most beautiful in Europe: a witness of the glorious period of the Renaissance, it stretches to envy the historical monuments among the most splendid of Italy: here are the basilica Saint-Antoine built in honour of the Franciscan priest; the Palazzo Bo where the University of Padua has been sitting since 1493; the Prato della Valle (Pre de la Vallée), gigantic oval-shaped square encircled by the waters of a canal, making it both a theatre, a market place and a gathering place; or the many Roman bridges that enclose the Bacchiglione. It is easy to find the accommodation of its dreams in the centre of Padua, but the city is a victim of its success, it will sometimes be necessary to book it long in advance, especially if you want to stay in Padua in the summer season!
