Downtown
Houston is such a gigantic city - more than 1600 km2 of area - that it is difficult to talk about downtown; the city, in fact, has at least five of them, all located inside the “610 Loop”, the peripheral highway capturing the metropolis.
Among them, Downtown is a business district, typically American with its skyscrapers. When you look for a place to sleep in Houston, it is ideal: here, prestigious hotel establishments welcome the visitor to enjoy the countless tourist attractions located in the area, such as the Downton Aquarium and its shark pool, sporting events in unmeasured stages, musicals and shows. We also eat, and rather well: it would be a shame to stay in Houston without enjoying the restaurants in the varied cuisine, there are for all tastes! To move around, we recommend renting a car: we are in Texas and here, public transport is fairly unspread.

More to the south, this district is dedicated to museums and artistic collections: go to the discovery of the Museum of Fine Arts and its antiques, its works of art including splendid sculptures famous all over the world. Then go for a ride. Hermann Park , beautiful lung of greenery welcoming a splendid Japanese garden, before tasting an ice -yes, it can make very hot during the summer season in the city- in the alleys of the Houston Zoo, one of the most beautiful in the country! And finish your visit by the Natural Sciences Museum and its surprising collections. With regard to housing, many hotels in the area are located in Houston for a fare, albeit high, more affordable than Downtown.

The Heights
Small topographical anecdote: Houston is a very flat city, the only relief being.. its skyscrapers. Only a small area located in the north-west, dating from the 19th century and constituting the historic heart of the city rises on a hill: it is about The Heights , as its name suggests.
There you will be able to find where to sleep in Houston by renting one of the centenary houses in bright colours, typical of the local architecture, before going along the 19th street to shopping and discover its delicious restaurants - if you wanted to taste authentic Tex-Mex cuisine, this is where it goes. This neighborhood, poor in the 1970s, is today a symbol of gentrification: prices increase and the local petty bourgeoisie rushes to the charming real estate of the sector.
