In which quarter house in Darwin?

For you who go to Australia and the Northern Territory, here is our selection of the best areas to stay in Darwin!

Most populated capital and city of the State of the Northern Territory in Australia Darwin is a small town open to the sea of Timor in the north of the island-continent in the Top End region. With an estimated population of 140,000 (2014), it is the smallest of Australian capitals: a small town of settlers, but it became one of the most modern metropolises in the country during its short history. With its equatorial climate, Darwin is one of the world’s cities where we find the highest concentration of marine crocodiles – The salties – from the world, these huge reptiles up to 7 meters long, having a bite of 1 113 kg of pressure, and going up the coastal rivers up to 300 kilometers inside the land.

Looking for a place to sleep in Darwin? Know that finding accommodation in Darwin, as often in remote cities in Australia, can be more expensive. This is our presentation of the neighborhoods where to sleep in Darwin.

Most of the tourist and social activity takes place in the center, on a tiny peninsula In the rade.

There is not much to see and do in the neighborhood, but here are some sites worth of interest: the Bicentennial Park and its giant esplanade, the memorial and cenotaph museum of war, the Crocosaurus Cove (an animal park where you can discover reptiles and turtles with cage immersion with crocodiles), an aborigine art gallery on Smith Street and/or the Big Buoy water park .

Along Smith Street and in the adjacent streets, there are countless shops and aborigine art galleries and boutiques and, to the Mitchell Street , an abundance of bars and restaurants. The city centre is the best option to stay in Darwin.

This new beachfront neighbourhood is located at the end of downtown .

As we can’t swim too much because of the marine predators that are not at all our friends (maids and crocodiles), an artificial lagoon and a watershed have been installed in the city, as in the city Cairns : Wave Lagoon (AU$ 7) and Recreation Lagoon (free). The Darwin Waterfront offers an artificial and protected beach, allowing to be refreshed.

Some bars and restaurants where to go out in the evening are nearby. Remember to book your night in advance because there are few hotels to sleep in Darwin Waterfront.

The Gardens

Where to stay in Darwin, get green while visiting the city? It is possible in the garden area .

The immanquable neighbourhood is obviously the botanical garden Georges Brown , one of the richest natural ecosystems in the region. The garden houses many species of orchids, palm trees and other endemic bird species. At the end of the visit of this huge lung of greenery, the Eva’s Cafe will be your resurgent refuge.

Looking for an unmistakable cultural visit? Make the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory ( Museum and Art Galery of Northern Territory ), located north of the botanical garden. A major advantage of the neighborhood: the entrance is free! Nearby is the beach Mindil Beach . No to swim, but to stroll through the Sunset Mindil Beach markets during the dry season (Dry Season). What to stay in Darwin at a 30-minute walk from the city centre while enjoying absolute tranquility!
