Visit Queensland State in Australia, close to the Great Coral Barrier: This is the area in Cairns!
Coastal city of Queensland State in the northeast of Australia , Cairns is a small town of 151,021 inhabitants, located 1,707 kilometers away Brisbane – the capital of the state – and 2,420 kilometres north of Sydney. Founded in 1876, Cairns is a major tourist town in Queensland due to its proximity to the large coral barrier (1h30 by boat), many islands – including Fitzroy island and Green island – and the tropical wet forest ( rainforest) , whose hikes are essential. Built on ancient marshes and mangroves that were debushed and filled with rock, the current site of Cairns is surrounded by agricultural areas (sugar cane, corn, rice, bananas, pineapple).
In 2012, we had stayed there for 1 month after a road trip through the desert roads of the Northern Territory and Queensland: if you are looking for accommodation in Cairns, you make a good choice: it is a very pleasant city. The best time to get to Cairns is the southern winter, from May to October. Careful, it is not advisable to swim because of the presence of marine crocodiles and potentially fatal jellyfish.
