The largest island of sand in the world
Fraser Island (or Fraser Island) is off the coast of Hervey Bay about 300 km north Brisbane South Queensland. This island has huge dimensions for a sandy island: 1,840 km2 of area, 123 km long and 25 km wide, making it the largest sand island in the world and a large playground for you. This island, made of sand, is only practicable in 4X4. The most beautiful part of Fraser Island on its East side, you will first have to cross it to discover its beauty. And when you get there, you will understand why you need a powerful 4X4 to circulate: it is sometimes even difficult to manoeuvre and that is where it becomes interesting. Within the island you will discover clear water lakes in which bathing is a feast (perfect temperatures), beautiful places throughout your stay where you alternate sporting driving, walking, swimming, and well-deserved rest, without even slipping a shoe. The natural environment will be yours for a short trip!
What activities in Fraser Island?
You will have understood, during your stay on the island, you will not be bored so much there are things to do and to see: - 4X4 driver : one of the most interesting parts of the trip has already been mentioned. If you like to drive in adventure conditions, choose the stay where you leave in group of about 20 people, with several 4X4 different. You will therefore be in groups of 7 or 8 by 4X4 and drive in turn. Driving in the sand is absolutely awesome, though delicate. After taking over the vehicle, you will have to pass streams, slopes, crevasses, and play with the gear lever, move from two to four drive wheels, etc... and that without any risk. You will always be in a group, and your guide will help you in the difficult passages. Overall, this activity is the most playful. - Discovery of lakes : Several hundred freshwater lakes are like Fraser Island and you will swim among the most beautiful and interesting. On the program lakes McKenzie (the most beautiful), Wabby (to the hollow of a huge sand dune), Allom (to observe turtles), Bowarrady (120m above sea level), and Boemingen (surprising) Enjoy these lakes because it is not advisable or forbidden to swim in the ocean because of the presence of sharks and strong currents.
- Meeting with fauna and flora : Animal observation will be one of the many other attractions of the island. You will see mainly dingos (a variety of wild dogs, the purest race in Australia), but also kangaroos, wallabies, birds of different rare species, and during the period of August to October the whales that migrate. The forest, when it is home to trees of a thousand years old, very impressive. - Admire the key points of the island : During your stay, you will stop at points of interest. Discover the wreck of the ship Maheno older than a century, Indian Head Fraser’s most eastern point and whale observation point, Eli Creek a strong stream on which you float, The Cathedrals multicolor sand cliffs, Champagne Pools for a natural foam bath, and many more... You can even admire the island from the sky on board a small tourist plane. - Sleep in the beautiful star or in a luxury hotel : To make the most of your adventure on site, prefer the tent camp, it’s much warmer and the facilities aren’t so rudimentary that... The city you must reach is called Hervey Bay . It is from here that you will leave, with your 4X4 personnel or group.
