20,000 m2 have been painted to revitalize a neighborhood
The tags are in the lowest rank in the " hierarchy" of street-art. On the other hand, we have the large-scale wall paintings (or “macural” in Spanish), like that recently painted in the district of Palmitas, Pachuca Mexico. This fresco is huge, covering 20,000 m2 of surface on 209 houses and their facades. Not only did this great street art project embellish the local landscape, formerly not attractive, but it was extremely positive for the 452 families (1808 people) residents of the place. This project is also social: it has eradicated youth violence and created several jobs. Overall, it took five months to realize the fresco.
“Germen Nuevo Muralismo”, a team of young people using street art as a means of expression teamed up with the Mexican government to rehabilitate this neighborhood. According Streetartnews , Germen Nuevo Muralismo has made community participation a priority, which could explain in part the beautiful result, both visual and social.
The team aims to revitalize the scene of Mexican wall painting, and to use street art to bring tradition and conviviality to the community.
