How to get to the Gare Sud de France from Montpellier?

You just noticed that your train arrives or leaves the Gare Montpellier Sud de France and you don't know how to get there? We explain everything!

Since July 7, 2018, the date of the inauguration of the new station in Montpellier, the Gare Sud de France, several lines of TGV, regional trains and Ouigo trains have been transferred to this new train station.

During the first months of service, it disrupted many travellers from the region of Montpellier, who have not always anticipated having to go to the Gare Sud de France from the centre of Montpellier. If as I thought you were taking your train at the Gare Saint-Roch, I would like to point out here how to get from the centre of Montpellier to the new Gare Sud de France. These indications are also valid in the sense of Gare Sud de France – Montpellier.

By tram

The tram is certainly the easiest way to go to the South train station in France. Indeed, with the same transport ticket (1,60€, to be purchased from the TAM company), you can go to the station. It takes about 50 minutes from/to the centre of Montpellier to get there.

It is necessary to take line 1 to Odysseum, and go down to the last stop, Place de France. A voice in the tram will tell you to go down to this stop if you go to the South Station of France.

Then head to the bus stop located on the Place de France (located on your left by tram). A special shuttle passes every 15 minutes.

Be careful, do not confuse the directions Gare Sud de France and Garosud.

By bus

According to the place you leave from Montpellier, shuttle to Montpellier Airport goes to the train station Sud de France. This shuttle leaves every hour of the Place de l’Europe stop ( tram lines 1 and 4, bus lines 9 and 37). The cost of this shuttle, provided by Hérault Transport, is €1.60 (to be purchased from the driver).

Note that the bus on line 9 and the bus on line 37 go to Odysseum, at the Place de France stop, from which you can take the shuttle to the Gare Sud de France (see above).

By taxi

In the event of an emergency or a requirement of comfort, the taxi solution remains a little more costly.

Taxis are available in front of Saint Roch train station. If you don’t find it, you can book directly online on Taxi Tender or call these companies:

  • Taxi Bleu du Midi, 04 67 03 2000
  • Taxi TRAM, 04 67 58 10 10
  • Taxi Concept, 06 58 660 660

By car

Finally, if you have no choice but to go to the Gare Sud de France only with your own vehicle, you can park on the parking lot of the station.

Parking opening hours : Monday – Tuesday – Wednesday – Thursday – Friday – Saturday from 06:15 to 22:50 Sunday 09:15 to 22:50

Parking rates : Rates parking, Gare sud de France de Montpellier

Pending the extension of line 1 of the tram to the train station Sud de France in 2021/2022, it is all the simplest means of transport to the train station Sud de France from the centre of Montpellier.
