Castle tours and wine tastings from Bordeaux
Saint-Emilion is a charming village located east of Bordeaux and ranked on the UNESCO World Heritage List. A monk, called Emilion, who lived in the 8th century, decided to settle there and establish his own monastery. He gave his name to the city after becoming a Saint in the 11th century. Thanks to the proximity of the river of the Dordogne which flows at the foot of the city, and for the trade that took place on the river, the city quickly became rich.
The hilly landscape of the Saint-Emilion region offers a perfect drainage for the vines. The terroir is particularly suitable for the Merlot vine that appreciates clay soils (humid and fresh). The wines you will enjoy here are mixed with a majority of Merlot: they are fruit , fresh, moderately corsed and delicate .
In 1955, a classification of Saint-Emilion wines was created with the idea of being revised every 10 years. Within this classification you will find some of the greatest wines in Bordeaux, such as Château Cheval Blanc, Ausone and of course the famous Pétrus, located in Pomerol.
