1. Romanesque churches in the Boi Valley (Catalogne)

The winner of the survey on the “7 wonders of the Spanish countryside” is the series of Romanesque churches in the Boi Valley in the province of Lérida. These are 9 Romanesque churches declared World Heritage of UNESCO and located in Catalonia.

The castle of San Pedro de Jaca occupies the second position. This hexagonal citadel is a fortification built at the end of the 16th century. It is fully preserved and accessible. It's accessed by a bridge-levis.

3. The peninsula of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe ( Basque Country)

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is only a small lost rock on which culminates a small construction dedicated to Saint John. There is a staircase of 231 steps. This building was first mentioned in 1053. Its construction however seems to date from the 10th century.

4. The Castro de Baroña (Galice)

The Castro de Baroña , is a rocky tip of Galicia at sea level. This is a stone Celtic fortification. It has two exterior walls and about 20 streets to circulate inside. It would have been occupied between -100 and 100 AD.

5. The caves of Altamira (Cantabria)

The caves of Altamira are famous for being the first place in the world where we have identified the existence of the Upper Paleolitic art. Currently closed to the public for conservation purposes, it is part of a set of 17 caves of Art Rupestre from the north of Spain that all form part of UNESCO’s world heritage and most are open to the public. Next to the cave, you can visit the museum where you will find faithful reproductions of what is inside the caves.

6. The enchanted city (Cuenca)

enchanted city is a particular geological ensemble formed by the erosion and runoff of water on the rocks. These strange structures are very appreciated by tourists and make it a beautiful summer destination!

7. Palace of Olite (Navarra)

The royal palace of Olite was the place of residence of the kings of Navarre until its conquest by the kingdom of Castile in 1512. He was one of Europe’s most luxurious castles. It is 42 kilometres south of Pamplona. It was declared a national monument in 1925 and occupies a third of the medieval whole of the city. It is one of the most interesting Gothic structures in the European continent.
