Ending the identity card, the passport becomes mandatory for Morocco
Since June 18, 2015, French and foreign nationals must be provided with a valid passport to enter Moroccan territory, including on an organized trip.
The Morocco has indeed hardened its conditions of entry, especially to strengthen security in its kingdom. For tourists, this means the compulsory possession of a passport if it wishes to stay in the country. So far, the identity card was enough to travel to Agadir, Marrakech, Fez and other tourist sites in Morocco.
"For a stay equal to or less than three months, the valid passport (minimum three months) is mandatory. If no visa is required for French nationals, the national identity card is not recognized to enter Moroccan territory." , can be read on the France Diplomacy website.
As the site tells TourMag , several French travelers from Nantes have recently made the bitter experience of this change of formality. Indeed, 28 tourists from the same group had problems when entering Moroccan territory on their arrival in Agadir, having only their national identity card (CNI) in their possession.
If finally 23 of them were accepted after the intervention of the tour operator, "5 people had to turn their way back" .
