Angelita, a submarine river in Mexico

A strange phenomenon takes place in this note of the Yucatán Peninsula

The Mexico is renowned for the beauty of its sites and especially for its pyramids, Mayan constructions but also its forests, etc. Do you know that there is another beauty not to be missed in Mexico, namely the cenotates and especially the Angelita (also called) « Little Angel » )?

Késako?

A note is a blow that was created by the collapse of the ceiling of a cave. This same cave then filled with fresh water that comes from a nearby jungle and salt water that infiltrates from the sea.

Since these two waters have different densities, they are divided by layers to more than 30 m of depth which are separated by another layer of hydrogen from the decomposition of plants in water. This last layer gives the impression of having one underground river .

Angelita

After seeing the scientific explanation, place now at the Angelita note: it is a surrealistic, wonderful place that offers a unique spectacle for diving mators. In Maya, “clip” means “sacred well” and we understand why: in front of this unique panorama in the world, submarine visitors really feel like swimming between two waters, being in the middle of an underground river.

Angelita Cenote is 17 km south of Tulum and it is surely one of the most visited places in the Playa del Carmen region .

After walking through the jungle for 5 minutes, you reach this little corner of circular-shaped paradise. It’s so dark that you feel like you’re in the middle of this dense forest in the middle of the night.

The Angelelita Cenote is about 28 meters deep with this famous river on the key. It consists of 2 layers: a layer of fresh water on the upper part and another layer of salt water on the lower part.

Between the two, there is a 3rd thick layer of about 3 meters and rich in hydrogen sulphide, which gives an amazing show. We literally feel like being outside the open air while the river is beautiful and underground.

The Tulum region known for its Mayan pyramids and its fantastic ruins offers a new facet of its landscapes and its natural beauty with the Angelita note. One. impressive natural phenomenon which can only be seen by qualified and experienced divers.

Note that the cenotates, sacred wells, were frequently used by the Mayans for their sacrifices. Angelita ("little angel") seems to have preserved from this mystery from a past era.
