Climbing in the Gorges du Tarn: climbing spots, roads, access

Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, Tarn’s gorges contain spots of choice, to try to climb or perfect your climbing technique. Discover the 14 most beautiful places to climb in this region!

Are you a bit of climbing and the foot-hand or the flag no longer have a secret for you? You're in trouble and want to try your first baudrier in a pleasant setting? Located in Lozère, in the Cevennes National Park, specifically in the Massif des Grandes Causses, the Gorges du Tarn are undoubtedly one of the ten most beautiful and interesting French climbing sites. Some spots have even gained international fame. With these seven-cent dolomitic limestone lanes, some of which measure more than fifty meters, there are for all tastes, for all ages and for all levels.

Whether you're looking for trouble or simple fun, you're looking for wild spots or lively sites, whether you climb with family or friends, you'll find slippers at your foot!

Catch your bastard and en route to climb in the Tarn Gorges!

1. Parking

Located southeast of Séverac-le-Château, Parking is a limestone rock spot for all levels. However, it may not be ideal for children, knowing that the paths begin with 5c . For the most experienced, the Body Building sector includes six tracks from 6c to 7c+ . The site is exposed southwest/north-west and its access does not require an approach walk.

2. Les Baumes Hautes

A few kilometers east of Séverac-le-Château, the Baumes Hautes spot is a must for the confirmed climbers. With tracks of almost seventy-five meters, a level of difficulty ranging from 6a+ up to 8a+ , and two paths in adventure field, the Baumes Hautes is an emblematic site next to which you cannot pass! In summer, you will enjoy the morning shadow. On the other hand, the site is not suitable for children, despite a relatively low approach walking time.

The areas of Oasif and Causse Planet are particularly interesting for physical climbing, on hole limestone. The important reverse of the Oasif is impressive. You will find ways to go from 7a to the project. You can try Flexion, which is a 7a lane, with a length of 30 meters.

On the side of the Causse Planet area, climbing is just as physical, with routes in 7 of average, rather long, but with a slight spill.

3. Cirque des Vases

Cirque des Vases website is convenient for all levels. The beginners will be able to try to climb on the tracks in 3c . The most experienced will be happy on paths in 8a , in the area of the Rock off, on one of the five avenues of adventure, or on one of the immense paths reaching a length of 100-quarante meters! On the other hand, if you meet with children, make sure to take into account the twenty minutes of approach walking.

4. Reverend

Located not far from the village of Rozier, the Reverend is accessible to novice climbers, regardless of their age. Indeed, the site is home to paths ranging from 4c to 8a , and requires only five minutes of approach walk.

5. No Soucy

This spot, located in the east of Séverac-le-Château, is ideal for good climbers, although there are tracks from 4a . The limestone cliff, south-facing and east, houses five areas and more than seventy lanes, some of which reach a hundred and eighty metres long. The average level is 5c with tracks in 8. Count ten minutes of approach walking.

If you like climbing with the sun of the morning, come to discover the area Black Desire! You can test paths from 6a to 7b , of an average length of 25 meters. Do not miss the "Djebly the fly" in 6c, to put you in the leg. You will also find beautiful 7a, especially pleasant to climb.

6. Tarn Valley

The limestone cliffs of the Tarn Valley site are concentrated in two areas called Muse and Piédestal. The 60 tracks will offer a pleasant playground for beginners with pathways in 4+ , or for experienced climbers, with short tracks rated to more than 8. Count five minutes of approach.

7. Capluc

Capluc is a small spot located near the Rozier. It only shelters two tracks in 6a and is accessible directly.

8. Baumes Chaudes

Another must for climbing in the Tarn Gorges, the site of the Baumes Chaudes includes four sectors. If you are good climber, beautiful atypical paths in 8 and projects are waiting for you. If you like to start with a particularly physical block pass, try the "Blonde holly foam".

The Foetus School sector is practicable for beginners. Count between five and ten minutes of approach walk, uphill. If the sun doesn't scare you, it will be at your meeting in the late morning.

9. Meyrueis

From the name of the village next to it, Meyrueis is a spot for all levels. You can climb on some 3a as on 9a ! The length of the tracks is equally variable, ranging from ten to ninety metres! Count five to twenty minutes of approach.

10. The Jasses

Not far from the village of Florac, come to discover the site of the Jasses, exposed to the south, which houses paths in 6 . Access is worth it, as it is necessary to plan about 20 minutes of walking to access it.

11. Cirque des Baumes

The third most important climbing site in the Tarn Gorges, after those of the high Baumes and hot Baumes, Cirque des Baumes is located in the east of Séverac-le-Château. You will find the way you need, if you like the reverse and overlook it. Although the site is home to roads 5a , it remains relatively dangerous for children. Count between five and fifteen minutes of approach walk, uphill.

On the Tennesse sector, rub yourself to the eponymous path 8b , as well as the famous “Ailes of desire” in 8a . Other tracks are listed in 8c .

On the Navire area, you will enjoy a superb view after a beautiful climb over a stunning view. In the summer, the shadow comes pretty quickly in the middle of the day. Hold the "Great Nature" in 7b, 30 meters long, which ends up in reverse. If you are looking for "resi", the "El diablo perverso" is interesting.

On the Amphitheatre sector, you will enjoy the fresh side, even in summer. There are some for all tastes, but you are launching the challenge of "La Bohème", a rather original project.

12. The Unicorn

In the east of the Rozier, the thirty lanes of the Licorne site are suitable for beginners and climbing experts. The first will make their first guns on tracks 2+ , while the most experienced will risk trying 8a or adventure grounds!

13. Between two

Although we find easy ways in 5b+ , the Entre-Deux site is an interesting spot for seasoned climbers, lovers of vertical climbing. Located in the east of Séverac-le-Château, it offers routes to the 8c and projects. On the Güllich area, you will find rather block tracks.

Located south, south-west and south-east, the site is practicable from spring to late autumn. However, it is not suitable for children. Count between five and ten minutes of approach walk, uphill, to access the tracks.

14. Les Baumes Basses

The last must-see spot, the site of the Baumes Basses has the merit of being adapted to beginners and children, while reserving to the most experienced the opportunity to climb mythical paths. There are for all levels, from 4c to 8c and even projects. Cherry on the cake, the view is really great. On the other hand, that lovers of spills pass their way, because the tracks are mostly vertical. Count five minutes of approach walk, uphill.

If you are an experienced climber, you can only pass next to the gigantic wall "What do you do? ! Some of the routes it houses reach the hundred meters! Don’t miss the famous “Odyssey of Space” in 8a+, after you’re blown on “La Puerta del Sol” in 6c+.
