Cheap car park in Florence: where to park in Florence?

Want a sunny ride on the streets of beautiful Florence? Then by car, Wanderlix presents all his tricks to find a parking lot in Florence.

The Berceau of the Italian Renaissance, Florence is probably one of the most beautiful cities in Italy and for cause: it alone represents almost 25% of the works of the Italian historical heritage! A city-museum but also a festive city, the capital of Tuscany has many advantages for it: between its monuments, testimonies of the power of the Medici, its sublime galleries and museums, its delicious ice creams and its ambient fragrance of leather, Florence has everything to seduce.

But if you decide to visit Florence by car, you will probably encounter some obstacles. Indeed, traffic is prohibited to vehicles in the city centre, which becomes very complicated to park in the city. Fortunately, Wanderlix is there to help find cheap parking in Florence.

Parking in Florence: the restricted area

As in many cities in Italy, there is a ZTL – a limited traffic area – that applies to Florence. Indeed, as the streets date from the 19th century and are recognized as a UNESCO world heritage, the Italian government has decided to preserve them by limiting travel in the city. Only residents have the permission to park in Florence, so you will be obliged to park either in private parking or outside the ZTL.

For schedules, the ZTL applies Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 8pm and Saturday from 7:30am to 4pm . There is also a night ZTL, from April 7 to October 2, which extends the hours of the nights of Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 to 3:00 a.m. Advantage: it does not apply on Sundays.

Here is the map of the ZTL areas and the various parking lots in Florence:

Parking in Florence: find a place in the street

To park in Florence without spending all your vacation budget, you will need to park outside ZTL area and thus park in another area called ZCS, – controlled parking area. You can park if you are able to find a place, but pay attention to the color markings: the blue lines are paid – count 2€ for 1 hour and 3€ for 2 hours in zone 1 and 1€ for 1 hour and 2€ for 2 hours in zone 2,3,4 and 5 – and the white lines are exclusively reserved for florentins.

But there is a good map for a cheap car park in Florence, ideally located and offering spectacular views of the Tuscan capital: the parking Piazzale Michelangelo . Once free, it is now paying but still very affordable: have 1€ the first hour and 2€ the others, especially since at this price you will enjoy a splendid view of the heights of Florence.

Another good plan to park in Florence: find a place outside the city, close to public transport. Just a stone's throw from the Villa Costanza, you'll find cheap parking: 0,50€ for the first hour, 2€ for 4 hours, 5€ for 10 hours and 7€ for the day. You will only have to take the tram to reach the center and the tower is played.

If you absolutely want to park in the city centre of Florence, there is a solution: private garages. Certainly more expensive, they will have the advantage of transmitting your license plate to the authorities electronically. You will therefore receive a permit, valid for 2 hours the time to unload your baggage and only the day you arrive and leave. It will take an average of 20 to 35€ per day.

Located in the city centre, the Garage San Gallo is an ideal parking for anyone who would like to be close to Piazza San Marco or the gallery of the Academy. For rates, count 25€ per day, 50€ for two days and 60€ for a weekend Pass with unlimited entries and outputs.

Other parking in Florence and very well placed: the Palazzo Vecchio , close to the famous palace of the same name. For prices, the day is at 24€, two days at 48€ and the Pass weekend at 65€, with unlimited admissions and exits.
