Tropical Islands is located near Berlin
It is the world’s largest tropical swimming pool with over 400 sun loungers and not a single cloud in sight. The Tropical Islands Resort is an artificial tropical complex located about 60 kilometers south of Berlin and was built in the largest dome on foot in the world. This huge structure, which looks like a plane hangar, is 360 meters long, 210 meters wide, and 107 meters high, and is supported by 14,000 tons of steel. It is big enough to accommodate 8 football pitches together. Even the Statue of Liberty (93 metres) could stand there, and the Eiffel Tower (322 metres) could be placed inside.
This hangar, named Aerium , cost 78 million euros and was initially designed to park a airship in the early 2000s. Tropical Islands Resort opened in 2004.
Inside the dome is the world’s largest indoor tropical forest with 50,000 trees, shrubs and plants. There are carnivorous plants, banana trees, coffee makers, lianas as in the jungle and other exotic plants. A one kilometre long path winds through the forest and a bridge above the mangrove would almost make us believe that we are in the Amazon forest. One side of the dome has a huge window allowing natural light to enter.
If you go there, you can enjoy a beach of 200 meters long and a water of 26°C all year round.
Around the pools there are reproductions of famous architectural wonders of Asia like Angkor Wat, the temple of Pura (Bali), a typical house of Borneo, a traditional Thai house... and even large statues of Buddha everywhere.
The complex is open all year round, 24 hours a day, and is large enough to accommodate up to 7,000 visitors a day. Toboggan 25 meters, mini-golf, restaurants serving gourmet meals, shops, bars, day-care centres, and even tents and tents lodges in the middle of the jungle to spend the night are available in the dome.
For 36€ (28,50€ for children, and free for under 5 years), you can go to this tropical destination, even in the middle of winter in Europe.
