A small visit of Naples for a weekend

What to do in Naples during a short stay: some ideas

Naples is an incredibly lively and authentic city. I live in Milan, and I often go back for the holidays or the weekend. Located in the southwest of the Italy , its historic centre is one of the largest in Europe traced the history of its last twenty seven centuries. It is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every visit I discover new wonders! First visit to Naples? Here’s what I think is essential to experiment:

The culture of Napolitan cuisine

Yes I place the food in the first place, on the one hand because I love to eat and then because Naples is discovered mainly through his kitchen ! Wherever you walk you will feel at every corner of the street smells of tomato sauce, meat, fish, cheese, spices, fruits and vegetables and of course desserts. It is a city rich in its kitchen. My favorite place is undoubtedly the "Antica Pizzeria da Michele" in the via Cesare Sersale . There are only three types of pizza you will remember: Margherita , Margherita with double portion of mozzarella with Buffalo milk and Marinara with his anchovies. Then finish by a Baba with the Neapolitan rum in one of the pastry shops of the city.

Le Cimetière des Fontanelles

The Neapolitans have always had special traditions towards the dead. Protecting and honoring the skeletons and death heads of unknown people found during excavations, they worship them by offering them presents like flowers, clothing, rosaries or small wooden houses. This ritual has been practiced for centuries and you can see its result in Fontanelles cemetery which welcomes more than 40,000 skeletons!

The culture of coffee

Naples is not only known for its excellent pizza but also for its coffee. The coffee Kimbo , for example, is roasted in Naples. It must be served in small cup, short and very, very strong. The bitter taste is regulated by the addition of sugar. Some addresses to taste the best coffee in Naples, I recommend Gran Caffè Aragonese, Intramenia Caffè Letterario and the Caffè Amadeus in which you can enter any message in your coffee cup.

Discover the nightlife of Naples

Located on the edge of the Mediterranean, this city is perfect for lovers of music festivals and evenings on the beach, and to enjoy good music while sipping a cocktail with as background the sunset. The "Vibes on the Beach" bar is simply perfect for a lounge evening with a good cocktail and jazz/deep house in background music. The "Lido Turistico" is friendly for its location particularly close to the sea. The feet in the water, dance until dawn!

visit of Naples

Naples is a very big city with a lot of things to see and do . However, if you want to discover a little more of the region, I recommend the Amalfitaine coast as well as the visit of the beautiful towns of Positano, Conca dei Marini, Minori and Sorrento. At 30 minutes you can also find yourself at Pompey and visit its archaeological site .
