Which town house in Menorca?

Did you book a plane ticket for the Balearic Islands in Spain? This is in which town to stay in Minorca!

Minority - Menorca in Castilian and Catalan – is the most eastern island of the archipelago of the four inhabited Balearic Islands. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, it derives its name from its smaller size than Mallorca.

Known as a biosphere reserve on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1993, the island has a little over 93,000 inhabitants and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. Many megalithic monuments are scattered on its soil, the island being populated since ancient times. It is also the most preserved island of mass tourism in the Balearic Islands: this destination will therefore delight nature lovers and the offer of accommodation in the cities where to stay in Minorca is therefore less expensive than in Majorca or Ibiza.

The main interest of the island is at the level of the coastline and its contrasts: turquoise waters and deserted coves in the north, white sand beaches reminding Corsica in the south, a true paradise of nature from Ciutadella to Mahon. Here is a presentation of the cities where to stay in Minorca.

Ciutadella and the West

Former capital of Menorca and today the second city of the island, Ciutadella is a Hupped city where the Catholic religion is very pregnant. Many palaces scatter the territory of the city, which has 29,629 inhabitants. Innumerable small shaded squares enclose a labyrinth of alleys entangled with ochre, yellow and red facades. It is on this western part of the island that we find most of the available accommodations where to sleep in Minorca: luxury hotels, modest hotels, living rooms or pension , there are for all tastes and budgets.

The old town, around Es Born – the ancient place of arms in the medieval era – is full of medieval streets and palaces, fortresses and churches. The port and the pier are very lively in the evening and there is a high concentration of bars and restaurants and terraces. The coastline stretching from south to north is surrounded by heavenly coves and beautiful beaches: Cala Blanca, Cala en Bosc, Cales Piques – do not miss the superb viewpoint on Pont d’en Gil -, Cala Morell and Cala Algaiarens (belles baignades in crystalline waters).

Don't miss a hike in the mountains northwest of Ciutadella by going to the Punta Nati Lighthouse. In the south, we must admit that Cala Es Talaier, Cala En Turqueta, Cala Galdana, Cala Mitjana are much more frequented but still charming.

Port Mahon and East

Port Mahon, east of the island, is the capital of Menorca. The port is the largest natural port of the Mediterranean Sea, opened in a bay of five kilometers around which the city stretches on the heights. Port Mahon has many museums, palaces, churches and historic buildings to visit.

Choose to stay in Port Mahon offers an excellent starting point to hike in the Parque Natural de s’Albufera des Grau a huge protected wetland of 5,100 hectares containing up to 8,000 migratory birds in winter and 2,000 in summer. It is accessed by the hiking trail Camí de Cavalls , an idyllic walk between coves, beaches, dunes, pine forests, wild olive trees, fields covered with flowers, lakes and ponds.

The south-eastern coastline is a good option to stay in Minorca if you are looking for sublime beaches to rest: Cala en Porter, Es Canutells, Punta Prima, S’algar and Alcaufar, Cala de Sant Esteve, Sa Mesquida: from which to sunbath and to prep in the middle of a breathtaking nature.
