Whether you like black sand beaches or turquoise waters, everything is possible in Guatemala: here is where to find the most beautiful beaches in the country!
Guatemala is a small country in Central America, not necessarily known for its idyllic beaches. Yet, far from the very tourist town of Cancun in Mexico, Guatemala offers beautiful beaches preserved and above all unknown!
Go to the beach in South Guatemala
About 3 hours of road the city of Antigua , which is one of the most visited sites in the country, we access the charming seaside resort of Monterrico. A peaceful town, located by the Pacific. But this beach is not a simple beach: it’s a black sandy beach! Indeed, Guatemala is a volcanic territory, so the land is very dark. This gives a particular aspect to the beaches of Monterrico.
A few dozen kilometres away is also the resort of El Paredon, a true paradise for surfers, with its beautiful waves, and especially its many hotels built as paillote, feet in the water. It is a quieter place, less crowded but just as nice!
Go to the beach in northern Guatemala
It's not over! And yes, Guatemala has the advantage of being bordered not only by the Pacific in the South, but also by the Caribbean Sea in the North! It is close to the city of Puerto Barrios, which has an airport, that you will have to go to enjoy beaches with naturally heated waters all year round to 25 degrees.
And if you want even more exoticism, direction Livingston, a seaside resort accessible only by boat, in which the Garifuna community, from West Africa, settled several decades ago. On the programme, mixing flavours with a unique culinary heritage but above all, a Caribbean-friendly atmosphere!
Whether you're looking for a quiet place, to go with family, or lively to party, with waves or rather lagoons, the beaches in Guatemala are diversified and are perfect to finish your journey in beauty!
