It is, with Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, the highest commune in France, and for cause: the territory extends to the summit of Mont Blanc, at 4,810 metres above sea level, the highest point in Western Europe. The town’s top-place of tourism, mountain sports and winter sports makes use of the fact that Mont Blanc is the third most visited natural site in the world.

Downtown

Choosing the city centre to stay in Chamonix will present the advantage of being close to the cable cars to climb on the ski area, or in the summer, hiking trails. With on one side the cable cars to climb to Bréven (summ at 2,525 meters above sea level) – overlooking the valley, it offers a superb view of the Mont Blanc – and the other, that to go to the Aiguille du Midi (3 842 meters above sea level). Les Praz-de-Chamonix

Saint-Gervais-les-Bains

The city centre of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains is not very large, but it offers the possibility of doing everything on foot. It is also a very well-known spa: discovered in 1806, the thermal baths have more than 200 years of history.
