Discovering the Greek islands this summer: the course on the Cyclades. Here is our local guide to find out where to stay in Mykonos!
Pearl of the Cyclades and tourist destination of charm, Mykonos, populated by 10 150 people, is one of the most visited of the Greek islands . Between heavenly beaches, houses and sparkling villages of whiteness in a deep azure setting, its authentic mills, the typical culinary discoveries of Greece and the mazes of picturesque alleys, Mykonos is a high place of mass tourism although the island has lost nothing of its charm. The capital of the eponymous island, known as the "Little Venice" or "Cra" – is the most emblematic of the Cyclades, offering the most beautiful view of the blue waters of the Aegean Sea. It is also the Greek St-Tropez, a favourite holiday resort of many wealthy visitors. The city centre of Mykonos-Chora is a high place for thousands of tourists coming to visit the island, but Chora will also seduce lovers of history and culture.
Attention, finding an apartment to stay in Mykonos can be expensive, especially in the summer, where prices literally swell. Here is our presentation of the sleeping areas in Mykonos during your stay.
The Little Venice
The historic district is nicknamed the " Little Venice “, also Alefkandra , drawing its origin from the time when the women of Mykonos came to wash their clothes. Many cafes and restaurants will satisfy your desires for a gourmet break and fringal after a stroll through the alleys of the city centre to the port. North, Paraportiani church – an assembly of five different churches – whose whiteness of its walls contrasts in a singular way with the bright blue of the sky and the sea.
The city is built in amphitheatre wrapped around its port, which is arpente à pied to admire its white cubic houses with windows, balconies and blue shutters, from which bougainvilliers and red or purple fuchsias flow: it is believed in the typical Tunisian village of Sidi Bou Saïd. It is the best place to stay in Mykonos to discover the capital.

The port of Chora
In the north of the historic centre, winds up traditional fishing port Mykonos : a very charming setting where to sip a small glass on the terrace. Don't miss visiting the archaeological museum, the nautical museum, the folklore museum, the popular museum and the maritime museum. In the handle opening to the port, the beach Ag Anna – often stormed and crowded where a corner of towel pays the price strong – will allow you to swim a few steps away from your accommodation. Fuyez Chora in the summer if you are ochlophobes because in the summer, the crowd abounds in the small streets, which can be oppressive.
Don’t miss to take a look at the city’s churches: in particular, the Panayia Paraportiani church, presented on all the memories of the Cyclades. From the port you can go to the Chora hills, in particular to admire the famous windmills of Mykonos, dating from the 16th century, a must-see site of the island which constituted a lung of the agricultural and economic activity of the island for more than 400 years.
