Tibidabo Park: Presentation and History

The history of this amusement park began in 1899 when contractor Salvador Andreu started construction. Opened on October 29, 1901 – making it one of the oldest amusement parks in the world – it is the largest park in Spain and the third largest in Europe. While some of its infrastructure is of origin – but well maintained – the park can continuously develop new attractions.

Located on the highest hill of the chain Collserola at more than 500 metres above sea level, the park dominates the entire city of Barcelona and its surroundings. It houses 29 attractions on 6 levels, spread over 70,000 m2 to seduce small and large. At the highest point of Barcelona, you can enjoy a breathtaking view, a beautiful church – Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor – , and park attractions.

Several activities are possible by visiting the Tibidabo Park in Barcelona. Indeed, we will begin by visiting the park first. These are 6 levels of attractions, with respectively:

  • Level 1: Russian mountains, Pirates boat, Urkan and 360° view, El Mina d’Or and El Castel Misterios,

  • Level 3: Reserved to maintenance staff, closed to the public,
  • Level 4: the haunted hotel and self-tampers,

On the first level, El Mina d’Or – an aquatic attraction that will make you float on the water in a wooden log boat - El Castel Misterios (the castle of mysteries) and the boat Pirates Will satisfy the children. For the greatest and those who are not fierce with strong sensations, we will go towards the Russian mountains – where to enjoy a breathtaking view of Barcelona descending at all speeds in suspended trolleys – or l’Hurakan – hurricane in French, where you find your head backwards by turning on yourself.

At the fourth level, Hotel haunted Krüeger will seduce lovers of horror and horror films. We don’t say any more, it could scare you!

The penultimate level houses the Automation Museum , which presents a collection of toys and machines dating from the 19th century, and a flying carpet to immerse itself in a terrifying world of witchcraft.

Finally, it is at the last level that we will have panoramic view on Barcelona. Next to the park is on a promontory the Sagrat Cor (Sacré Cœur), inside which you can contemplate finely decorated mosaic paintings.

  • By bus – To visit the Tibidabo Park in Barcelona, the easiest thing is to board a T2A bus, from the Plaça de Catalunya, to the top of the Tibidabo. The bus ticket costs €2.95 for a go and return. The first bus leaves at 10 o’clock, and runs at a frequency of one every 20 minutes.
  • Funicular – Coming to visit Tibidabo Park is possible in funicular: the departure is at Plaza del Dr. Audreu.
  • By car – By car, it will be more complicated and expensive: the parking lot at Tibidabo Park in Barcelona costs 10 €, and it will be better to book its parking space in advance.

HORARI

Public access to the park varies depending on the periods:

  • Closed from 5 to 31 January and February
  • Open on weekends and school holidays from March to December
  • Open from Wednesday to Sunday in July
  • Open daily in August

The panoramic terrace is open daily, except January 1st, from December 6 to 31st, on December 25 and 26th. The terrace is only open on the weekend in February.
